This is my second Noodler's Boston Safety. My first is a Chestnut model. I like it so much that I decided to get another in black. I use Manjiro Nakahama Wheelman's Sepia in the Chestnut one and X-Feather in the black one. Both are wonderful pens. I only recommend these to people with brains and who have informed themselves of how these special pens work. I have taken both pens completely apart with no special tools. I totally trust these. If a future model come out in a different ebonite, I may collect them all. I like them that much!

After watching Noodlers videos an other information I could not to get the pen inked. It is very tight when the nib is out of the reservoir or barrel. I have tryed to use silicon grease into the barrel in order to get some softness of use but without success. It is a beautiful pen and I would hate to return it.

I have the chestnut finish. It’s a good looking pen, but it’s not that great. You absolutely will spill ink everywhere. My unit doesn’t twist to lock, so you have to hope your extension stays tight enough when you flex. The nib does not flex well at all. It’s a very long pen until you extend the nib, then it’s a good size. I could see this pen being good for glitter ink, but it’s honestly not that great.

Have a Waterman Safety, wanted a modern update, and this was it. Works fine. Service was excellent and this was one of the few sites carrying this pen

Perfect Modern Safety pen.
If you are FP ( weather new / vintage) collector, must have this in your arsenal.
Grab them when they are available. They just fly off the shelf in few minutes due to their limited quantity.

I had to heat set the feed, but it made this pen work great. I did not buy it for the normal flex, for which Noodlers is known. I bought it cause I like the color and the idea. I really like it. I've heard a waterman #2 nib will fit but that's personal choice. I am seriously glad I got it. Now please do a red.ripple kind of version.

The Noodler's Ink Boston Safety pen is both a curiosity and a tinkerers's pen. Noodle's has already acknowledged that it's unlikely there will be more made. That means it's a curiosity as far as I'm concerned. The complexity of its mechanisms, and the disassembly process--which I have not tried to do yet--seem to be a challenge even for Noodler's pens. The things I like about it are that the nib is always wet and ready to write, it's easy to hold (11.5 mm diameter), the nib is super smooth, it absolutely does not leak when properly capped and once the mechanism is used a few times, the parts move smoothly. Getting to that requires patience because sometimes it feel like too much force is being called for; that's just the stiffness of the parts. However, care needs be taken in twisting the sleeve to expose the nib. Done too quickly ink can spill out. The retracting of the nib, just like the exposing of it, is done by twisting the sleeve from left to right. That seems counterintuitive for the retracting, but is correct. Noodler's has an extensive video which any user probably ought to watch. It's long, but complete. And, as always, there's a history lesson and a bit of politics. I rated the quality below average because there is a metal inclusion in the ebonite barrel. The value is above average because one probably could not get a pen of this type for anywhere near the price listed.

I am a fan of Noodler's Ink and I love this pen. It can be a bit slow to feed with Noodler's conventional fountain pen inks (Apache Sunset and Australian Roses mixed 50/50). However, I have yet to attempt to adjust the feed, mainly because it is also easy to simply re-cap, shake and you are good to go again for a while. The ink capacity is smaller than many of the larger pens, and when using it to take notes, I burn through the reservoir fairy quickly. I have yet to obtain any of the committee of safety inks, but am anticipating to do so in the future. I am pleased with the performance, build quality, and functionality of the pen.

I would also like to mention how great Ron and the customer service is at Pen Chalet. I was looking for this pen for a quite a while. Ron and the staff kept me in the loop as I had requested, and really came through helping me acquire this order. I really appreciate the help, and have no reservations about recommending the Pen Chalet as a top notch retailer.

I'm a big fan of Nathan Tardiff and his Boston Safety Pen is a brilliantly designed special pen look at his videos for a very detailed explanation. Ron at Pen Chalet honoured my interest in this pen by keeping me informed about its availability. I have dealt with Pen Chalet before and have been able to aquire items from here that are extremely difficult to find in the UK and their customer care services are of the best, I've
always been looked after, they're good.

The Noodler's Boston Safety Pen is not a grab and go, easy to use style pen. You have to use this pen with careful purpose. Being a modern version of the old safety pens, you can throw it into your pocket and take anywhere. The cap is secure and keeps the ink well contained in the barrel. The texture of the pen is between gloss and matte, which gives the pen a vintage look and feel. The nib appears to be a standard #5 flex from Noodler's Ink, which is also found on the Nib Creeper pens, and works well with a little bit of flex when heavy pressure is applied. I did not buy the pen for the nib and with a little tuning it works as well as I would expect. The safety pen has one advantage over other fountain pens, it allows for using almost any ink. You can get the inks Noodler's made for this pen, or you can get any type of india ink that you prefer. The Boston Safety pen does not not have a glamorous body but its utility makes up for the lack of style.
