I’m thrilled with this pen! It’s simple, straightforward, functions perfectly, writes like a dream and looks like a “Blast from the Past”! The swirl Ebonite is really nice. I own a lot of high end pens but I’m not a snob. I thought this pen would be messy to use but the nib comes up, seals in place without so much as a smidgen of ink lingering. I’m very impressed!

I make homemade inks, such as black walnut and iron gall inks. I'm always looking for fountain pens that work well with my inks. The Noodler's Boston Safety Pen is the first and only pen that I've found that actually works with my black walnut ink. It handles real iron gall ink just fine, too (by "real," I mean the iron gall ink that is traditionally only used with dip pens). I really love these pens! Only downside is that they don't hold a very large quantity of ink, and they are a bit of a pain to clean (I'm using these pens as "permanently designated pens" for specific inks so I don't have to clean them in between ink changes). It is recommended that you watch the video to make sure you understand how to fill these pens, otherwise you will make a mess. I highly recommend these pens for those who love to use the trickier, permanent inks out there.

Still getting bit used to it. I haven't tried it in any non nomral ink yet, but it works nicly. Need to keep it nib down when the nib is out if not writing, otherwise will stop the ink feed. Defintaly a pen that takes a little getting used to, but writes nicely once does.

Love love love this pen! Best performing Noodler's pen out of the box hands down! And I love that it can handle pigmented and iron gall inks without worry. Great style and great feel and great writer!

The pen had a bit of an odd smell at first. I bought it to use with the SF Pen show limited safety pen ink. There’s a definite learning curve and I had to do a bit of research to find out how much ink to use to prevent overflow. I definitely suggest filling with an ink syringe and keeping to the exact suggested amount of ink to prevent messes.

I love the Boston Safety pens. I like that I can take them apart, I like that they travel well, and I like that they write every time. I bought two because I leave one at my office and take the other one with me. I write and draw and paint so this is my go to pen for all of it.

The Boston Safety pen is useful for pens that have some flow issues. I have mine filled with OS Nitrogen, and it writes every time. Just remember to point the nib up when you take the cap off the pen.

Beautiful pen love how different it is. Definitely not practical or easy to use mostly because you need to remember to uncap pen upwards and push the nib up slowly in order to prevent ink from sloshing out

I love safety pens, and have 4 Watermans, 2 Moores, and now 3 Noodlers. This most recent purchase, the Chestnut version, is a good pen. It has great fit and finish, and performs well (better than my 2 black ones which came from the first batch Noodlers released). It operates more smoothly, and has better ink flow than the earlier iterations. I love the swirled brown and black ebonite! Be aware that safety pens aren't for the faint of heart. This is a good pen, but it is still a design from over 100 years ago. It cannot be quickly deployed for use, and will reward you with massive ink stains if you are careless.

Do you love the look and feel of a solid black ebonite pen? Do you want a pen with quirky features, high-tech a century ago but practically unheard of today? Noodler’s Boston Safety is exactly that sort of pen. True to the original safety concept, this model features design improvements Nathan Tardiff conceived doing repair work on vintage safeties. Something about the nib feels delightfully “different” to me (old-fashioned, a bit flexy, perhaps?). By design, this pen does not easily dry out if you leave it sitting untouched for weeks on end. Strangers have admired my Platinum Preppy, and say it must be a very exotic pen. Fair enough, but this Boston Safety is so exotic it almost makes the Preppy seem commonplace as a Bic Cristal ballpoint by comparison. I think Nathan has produced a beautiful, and practical, recreation of the old vintage designs. Practical that is, either if you need a pen which can survive India or other inks which destroy modern fountain pens, or if you simply like the fussy quirks of a design which CAN handle such inks. I think this pen is exceptionally easy to use and maintain TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION it derives (beautifully) from a century-old design. Contemporary fountain pens rarely splash blobs of ink if you open them too abruptly (as Noodler’s Boston Safety can do), nor will they ever dump their ink supply if you forget to point them skyward before removing the cap (as Noodler’s Boston Safety most assuredly will do). On the other hand, you can completely disassemble the Noodler’s Safety with bare hands (perhaps using a piece of rubber for added traction if your grip isn’t that strong), and use it with wickedly aggressive inks if you are so inclined. I would call this the perfect pen for a certain breed of artists, tinkerers, and vintage fountain pen buffs.
