Yes it lives up to its reputation! One of the only pens I have that stays inked all of the time.

The Lamy 2000 with an EF nib was filled with Lamy Turquoise ink, and has worked well right out of the box. I've heard of this pen having a "sweet spot" when it comes to writing and the flow of ink. My short experience hasn't shown this to be an issue. I did roll the nib in my grip slightly to get some noticeable flow difference, but not enough to think I'd ever have a problem writing with it. The ink window, being opaque, was a concern, but I found it easy to see once the ink level was low. It has a good capacity of ink with an easy to operate piston filling system. The directions were very minimal, which is perfect for a pen like this. Great design, balance, size/fit to hand, clip, and it posts well too. Best price I could find! Very understated appearance with an unexpectedly smooth nib. Quality design and assembly.

I got a Lamy 2000 with a fine nib, and it is an excellent pen. I'll admit I was spooked a bit by talk of the notorious "sweet spot," but I've really had no trouble with that. The pen itself feels sturdy and balanced in the hand - its high quality is obvious. First, as a piston-filler, it can hold a good deal of ink. It writes smoothly but not too smoothly, with the fine nib giving just a little bit of subtle feedback. (Mine seems to be a true Western fine - which I quite enjoy - but nibs can vary.) The ink flow is excellent, nice and wet but extremely consistent. The feed can keep up with absolutely anything I throw at it with no skips - just good bold lines. The nib is pretty firm, but I like how that reinforces the consistency of the writing experience, and the hood keeps ink from drying quickly. The 2000 posts better than pretty much every other pen I have (very secure), and it's somehow well-balanced whether you post it or not. Lest I forget any other features, the clip actually does its job and makes traveling with it a breeze, whether in a shirt pocket or a pen roll.

Then there's the aesthetic dimension. I'll often just idly look at this thing and admire it. For me, it's one of the coolest-looking pens in existence. I especially like the look of the section and the hooded nib, and the makrolon material of the body also has a great feel to it. I know Lamy's Bauhaus style isn't for everyone, but for me, the 2000 is a stunner.

As to value, well, yes, you are paying a substantial amount for a pen. But you're paying for that long list of quality features I mentioned above, and also for the style (if you dig that). It's quickly become one of my favorites, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Lamy 2000 to anyone looking for a gold-nib pen in this price range.

Yet another incredibly smooth writing instrument. Lamy is reliable in delivering a fine writing experience. The 2000 is far lighter in feel than the Dialogue 3. It is not too bulky or too small, falls right in the middle in hand fit.

I've been wanting this pen for nearly two years. I actually purchased one from Endless Pens back in June but alas, the tines were messed up. I could have gotten it repaired, but I couldn't deal with emotional stress of... well... anything (2020... that is all I have to say). I should have known better. So I purchased it again from Pen Chalet, an AUTHORIZED RETAILER, so I know I didn't just picked up from a rejected Amazon sale or something. I'm not sure where they source their pens, but Pen Chalet gets them from Lamy. And it shows. This pen writes wet, the piston is smooth, and the overall quality feels premium. I can say none of that about the other one I purchased. Did I pay more? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Fixing that pen would likely have cost more than just getting this one.

As for comparing this pen to something like a TWSBI 580, the piston is smoother, it looks nicer, writes better, you can completely disassemble it (you can't really break down the TWSBI nib unit, at least not easily), IT POSTS (and comfortably at that), and isn't infamous for cracking. It's also triple the price. Is this triple the pen? No, it's maybe 30% better, but what good are three 580's when I already have a full pen cup?

Now comparing it to it's little sibling, the CP1. The CP1 is my favorite pen. Honestly, it still is. I prefer the CP1 over the L2K. The section is more comfortable to grip, it's cheaper, I don't fear taking it out of the house, and for that matter, it's completely inconspicuous, looking very much like a Pilot V5. It's not as wet as 2k, it doesn't hold as much ink, it isn't as nice to look at, and it isn't as smooth a writer (despite my use of a custom ground nib unit from Dan Smith). Two of those three complaints can be over come by using a wetter ink, the capacity issue by buying two (the CP1 is the only pen I own two of), and the remaining one is a virtue in many ways. With all that said, I'm still glad I got this pen since I don't keep two CP1's in my pen cup (I have two for trips or as a back up in case of loss or damage). One advantage that the 2k does have over the CP1 that can't be overcome is that it is easy to break down. I tend to use inks that can be hard to clean out of pens, so knowing I can easily get at the feed is important to me.

Moving onto two common complaints: the smoothness and the sweet spot. The nib is NOT buttery smooth, but if I wanted buttery smoothness I'd use a plastic stylus on a glass screen and as far as I'm concerned, there is no sweet spot. In fact, this pen has one of the most generous sweet spots among all my pens. It is a medium, but so are most of my pens. And thought I say it isn't buttery smooth, it is still quite smooth and the smoothest of my pens. It is also the most expensive of my pens and only gold nib pen (or pen over $60 for that matter).

So my over all impression is this is a good pen, but at the cost you can buy a TWSBI 580, a Lamy CP1, and a Platinum Procyon, all three of which are very nice pens (though I either can't or don't care for posting any of those).

I love my Lamy 2000 Makrolon broad nib. Like all Lamy 2000s it writes so smoothly and it has a little window so you can see when the ink is getting low. Also it's just the right size and weight, lighter than the stainless steel version but still substantial in the hand. The piston fill is so easy to use, as well. One of my top five pens of all time!
