Pen Chalet had cheapest prices around, that I could find, even beating out directly and slowly via Japan. They shipped promptly and packaged safely. Tucked in box was a 10% coup valid for a number of weeks. More potential saving for me. Sail on, sail on.

I LOVE this ink! I got this because I needed a permanent ink and I hate Noodler’s after way too many bad experiences with their products. I’ve loved the other Sailor inks I’ve used and knew that this would be a quality ink. I didn’t realize it would exceed all my expectations.

What this inn can do is largely up to you and the way you use it. Using a slow hand and/or bigger nib, you can use it to redact sensitive information from documents because it will flow heavier if you give it the ability to do so. Using an extra-fine nib allows you to have precise control of ink that will not feather and will stay put. A faster hand can even yield a slight bit of shading.

The best thing: I’ve used it in a TWSBI Eco extra-fine nib and it hasn’t clogged, settled or slowed down. It is incredibly well-behaved in the pen and I’m not seeing any staining as I push the piston toward the nib as I use up the ink. It’s been in the pen for two weeks. I have some regular inks that would be dried out and clogging the nib by now that aren’t even pigmented.

I’m going to buy this in every color. I wish they’d make dark green! This is one of the best inks (and I have a TON of inks).

One of the best performing truly waterproof permanent inks available. The color is rich and dark and looks amazing (a brilliant sheen can be seen under magnification on many papers of varying quality).

I got the "blue-black" Sei-Boku, which is really more of a medium-to-dark ink, depending on your pen and nib. with high flow pens, the ink will be dark, and you will even see some purple sheen. This ink's behavior and performance is top notch! It does not feather on any decent paper (and is even fairly feather-resistant on poor paper), has the least amount of bleed-through of any ink I've tried, and is very waterproof. In addition it's a low-maintenance ink. It's really well priced at this vendor as well. Highly recommended!

Plein air urban sketcher uses ink and watercolor when sketching most of the time. Need a permanent ink for drawing that stays put when covered with watercolor washes. This ink has a reputation for having more pigment than the Platinum pigmented ink. Testing verifies this as this ink exhibits some bloom when covered with a watercolor wash which darkens the watercolor. Otherwise this is a fantastic ink. Goes on smoothly and dries quickly. Everything you commit to paper will still be there if it gets wet. Just slightly smudged.

I'm a big fan of Brad Dowdy (the pen addict website and podcast) and from time to time I hear him make mention of concerns about Sailor's pigmented inks. He cautions that it can be troublesome to clean if you leave it in your pens for more than a couple of weeks.

Sailor's pigmented blue black (Sei Boku) is my overwhelming ink of choice. I have it in no less than seven pens at this very moment. Most of those are piston fillers, so they go a long time before I write them out of their ink, and the ink might be in any one pen for three or more months at a time.

With all due respect to Brad and his own experience, but I've never had any difficulties cleaning Sei Boku or Kiwa-Guro (the black ink) out of any of my pens. Pens that don't seal tight and dry out fast (like Lamy Safaris in my experience) are just a bummer overall, but even in a Safari, cleaning a dry-out of Sei Boku is no different than any other ink. I've never found it to be stubborn to clean.

So why choose one of these pigmented inks then? Sailor is a premiere Japanese brand with a long history, and Sei Boku is just absurdly gorgeous on paper that will let it shade, like on Tomoe River. It's essentially rock solid in its waterproof qualities. It's a sophisticated, elegant shade of blue black, and for me at least it's the yardstick against which I measure all other inks.

My favorite ink.

Permanent, good flow, and haven't had a problem with it. I mostly use it in my Pilot Prera and Pilot metropolitan.

The blue-black color has good shading, no greenish tinge, and looks really nice — equally good for letters and business.

I also have the black, which is very black and a great performer

These have the same slight distinctive chemical smell that all sailor inks have -- a little like paint.
