J Herbin Bottled Ink(30ml) Fountain Pen Ink Reviews
I am a fan of Herbin inks. They are vibrant and write well no matter which pen I use. This Vert Pre-color is beautiful, although a bit light for my everyday use.
It looks like a highlighter. Very light, bright green with a strong yellow tint. Almost disappears on a yellow legal tablet. Best on a bright white paper. I will probably mix in a drop or two of Herbin Lierre Sauvage just to darken it a bit. Hats off to Pen Chalet for quality products, good service, good shipping threshold, and a great breadth of product selection.

Rouge Grenat is a beautiful red color, but dries a bit darker on high quality paper. Vert De Gris is a pretty, muted green, almost teal color. All of the Herbin inks are well-behaved in all of my pens.

The Bleu calanque is a beautiful blue/turquoise. Matches the Platinum Procyon turquoise pen perfectly! Really enjoy this ink, that pen and shopping at Pen Chalet!!!

Such a beautiful minty color! If you have a Leuchtturm in the "emerald" color it is a bit like that. To me it is turquoise and minty. It is well saturated and I have found that it flows very nicely for long writing and note taking. It is not a super wet ink which I prefer for long sessions (it smudges less).

I purchased the Perle Noir color, but I also have the Lierre Sauvage and the Vert Empire.
Perle Noire is an excellent, deep black. It’s slightly thick, which makes it good for calligraphy and flexing. I had read that it would be great on absorbent paper, but it is not. It’s a good ink for dip pens.
Lierre Sauvage is an excellent Irish green. It is nearly everything MontBlanc Irish Green is, with a little less shading, and a little less tendency to bleed on absorbent paper. It’s a truly great color.
Vert Empire is a dusty green, with some grey to it. On some papers, it looks good. On others it looks under saturated and hard to read. It’s pretty inconsistent. I would not recommend.
These bottles are poorly designed. You basically cannot use a piston or vac filler in these bottles, and when the ink gets below half, you won’t be able to fill. The neck is pretty good sized, though. You are going to want an ink syringe when using this bottle.

I bought Bouton D'Or (Gold Button, in French) to serve as a highlighter ink, and it works fine for that use. It is such a happy color!
I'm not sure I would write a long letter with the stuff, as it's very light, though.
All of J. Herbin's inks are well behaved and a good value.
