I got this converter for the Caran D'ache 849. It took more effort to make sure it was in properly. For a good while, I didn't know it would "snap" when in place. I was afraid to ruin the converter so I didn't push it hard enough, which resulted in it getting stuck in the pen and me ruining the plastic a little when trying to get it out with tweezers.
I like the security I've had with my other pens/it was much clearer when the converter was in and the connection didn't seem as flimsy.
I think I'm basing "average" on my experience with other beginner styles (Lamy: Al Star, LX, Safaris, Pilot Metro, etc).
