great Ukiyo-e painters, Hiroshige and Utamaro. Inks are packaged in 40ml glass ink bottles and packaged in beautiful coated cardboard boxes featuring the masterpieces of the Ukiyo-e artists that provided the inspiration for the ink series.
Ukiyo-e is a genre of traditional Japanese painting that shined during the Edo Period (17th century). For this ink series, Taccia recreated the colors each artist used in their work, and featured some of their most beautiful pieces on the ink packaging.
The 2 Artists that Inspired the Ink Series: Hiroshige & Utamaro
Hiroshige Utagawa is particularly well known for bold compositions featuring motifs surrounding birds, flowers, vegetation, insects, etc. A defining characteristic of Hiroshige's work is the beautiful blue "indigo" color he incorporated. The particular blue pigment Hiroshige favored became known as "Hiroshige Blue."
Utamaro Kitagawa specialized in the art of
"beautiful women". Utamaro's unique technique featured delicate, elegant lines in pursuit of various forms and expressions of beauty.
