There's a reason it was selected as the ink of the year. It is fantastic.

This is a nice choice of color for “Ink of the year”- a green which suggests “Spring” arriving after what seemed (where I live) like an unending winter. It arrived swiftly after my order. Another reliable member of the Edelstein family.

Hello folks. Well, this is only the second brown ink that I have tried and ditto for a Pelikan ink.
For reference, I have this inked in a 1950's vintage Pelikan 400 brown tortoise fitted with an early 585 "script", medium nib. I would describe it as a moderate to wet flowing ink in this pen and very much to my liking.
This is a warm inviting brown color that shades quite nicely across multiply paper types. I believe it exudes character whether on premium copy, Staple's sugar cane, Rhodia or the smoothest Lamy and Tomoe River papers. I would say this is a well behaved ink with no serious issues. About the only downside is it does ghost a whisker on most all paper. In my opinion not objectionable enough to rule out "journaling" or using on both sides of the papers I've tried it on, with the exception being the sugar cane.
In short, this is a fantastic everyday ink for me. I thought brown inks would be boring; not so this one! I would have no compunction using Smoky Quartz in the business or legal environs.
I am price conscious yet tend to forage at the best online pen pastures. The Pen Chalet has earned its place in my grazing rotation. Their price simply could not be beat here in country(USA) on the inks I ordered and their service is top notch to boot. Just a great outfit.

This is simply not Pelikan's best Edelstein ink. I was expecting something a lot more special. It writes beautifully, of course, but I have other browns that I like much better.

I purchased the Edelstein Adventurine Green at the same time. Excellent, excellent inks. A joy to use. I have been searching for a satisfactory Brown ink for a long time & Smoky Quartz finally fills the bill.

I've found this an excellent shade of blue (Aquamarine)with good intensity and saturation. My Pelikan Vibrant Blue thinks it was made for it. Enjoy.

Edelstein inks are high quality and I absolutely love the bottle. However, the Aquamarine on paper appears to be too green to me. I used a Retro 51 medium nib pen. The color, to me, should be a bluish-green, and when looking at the ink in the bottle, it has a bluish-green appearance. However, it didn't seem to come through to the paper.
