From the Pony Express to modern Electric Vehicles, the USPS has a proud tradition of delivering the mail to even the most remote regions of the US; their history is intertwined with the history of our nation and offers an interesting perspective.
Limited Edition 2022 Halloween Release: Released October 11, 2022
Spooky Silhouettes: Featuring the 2019 stamps created by Tyler Lang, the black silhouettes of some of the spookiest Hallows’ Eve creatures (black cats, bats, spiders, and ghosts) are backlit by iconic Halloween colors printed on the black barrel and finished with black accents. Limited to 1031 pieces, the pen's edition number is engraved on the top ring and the finial features a spider. And as a trick-or-treat-style surprise...this pen glows in the dark!
Two January 2022 Releases: (Running numbered editions - not limited)
The Route Master: Evoking the iconic vintage postal vehicles from the early days, this Red, White, and Blue design paired with the historic eagle logo brings simpler times to mind and reminds us of the vital nature of the USPS throughout our history. The Route Master Tornado rollerball has an acid-etched barrel with light texture paneling and rivets representative of vintage USPS vehicles. The pen's metal barrel is printed with the iconic eagle logo and vehicle markings and finished with gloss black trim. The final touch is the Eagle icon placed on the top disc/finial.
2021 Love Stamp: This Retro 51 Tornado rollerball pen release features original art and stamp design by Bailey Sullivan with Greg Breeding as art director used as the USPS 2021 Love stamp. The Retro 51 Tornado USPS 2021 Love Stamp rollerball pen design is silk-screened on the stainless steel barrel and finished with a gloss varnish. The design is completed with polished chrome trim, an engraved USPS logo, and the pen's serial number. Finally, each 2021 Love Stamp Tornado rollerball pen is topped with a graphic finial displaying one more heart.
December 2022: The Hanukkah pen features USPS stamp art designed after an original fiber-art wall hanging featuring a hand-dyed, appliquéd, and quilted abstract image of a Hanukkiah. The original art's idea was adapted to a printed design for this release with the image wrapped around the Tornado's stainless steel barrel, varnished with a clear glossy finish, and paired with brass accents. The finial shows candle flames and the serial number of the 718 Limited Edition. The USPS® Hanukkah stamp was designed by Jeanette Kuvin Oren, with Ethel Kessler as the art director.
The textured knurl-top of your Retro 51 USPS Tornado rollerball pen twists to extract the smooth-flowing rollerball refill and then closes with a twist in the opposite direction when not in use.
The Retro51 licensed USPS pens are packed in commemorative USPS packaging tubes great for storage and display.
