This is the classic lacquer version of the pen that has chrome colored accents or trim. It has a knurled section on the cap which allows you to twist to actuate the refill to extend or to retract. On the top of the pen, there is a chrome colored ring engraved with "Tornado by Retro 1951". Then a clip on the pen that has a small section cutout where you can see the color of the pen behind it. Then the barrel is a lacquered glossy finish with different color resins. This happens to be the orange version of the pen. Then a matching chrome tip on the end of the barrel of the pen.
The Retro 51 Tornado pen is unique because it can accept either a standard Parker style ballpoint or rollerball refill. It can also use a Schmidt capless rollerball refill as well. So, it will actually accept two different styles of refills which is why the pen is unique as you can either make it a rollerball or a ballpoint pen. I have nineteen of the Tornado rollerballs and I believe all of the standard Lacquer colors. After hesitating for so long, once I tried one I was hooked. I always thought that the shape would be hard to hold and that the lacquered versions in particular would be extremely slippery. I don't know how they do it, but the high gloss finish isn't slick at all and somehow has a slightly grippy sensation when dragged through your fingers. These are manufactured to the highest standards and in these base color variants they are a real bargain. Highly recommended by me.
