The S.T. Dupont Line D Large Derby rollerball pen features Urushi lacquer over solid brass. The Urushi technique, an ancient Japanese and Chinese art, requires master-craftsmen to apply up to 9 layers of natural lacquer by hand. The S.T. Dupont Line D Large Derby rollerball's hand-made popoté brown lacquer, accented by yellow gold trims and inlaid vermeil gold 'Derby' generates the iconic atelier style S.T. Dupont is known for. The Urushi also creates a pearl-like shimmer and luxurious finish that is resistant to shocks, scratches and even fire.
The S.T. Dupont Derby Collection is inspired by the derby, a style of boot or shoe characterized by quarters with shoelace eyelets stitched on top of the vamp. Originally popular for sporting and hunting, this particular style became a more widespread style choice by the turn of the 20th century.
