Rohrer & Klingner Pens and Inks

About Rohrer & Klingner

Country: Germany

In 1892, the lithographer Johann Adolf Rohrer first began production of inks for lithograph machines. The Rohrer & Klingner company was later founded in Leipzig Germany by Johann Adolf Rohrer junior and Felix Arthur Klingner in 1907. The company is still known today as the Rohrer & Klingner Leipzig-Co.

The Rohrer & Klingner company was relocated in 1982 to the city of Zella-Mehlis Germany and continues today with the fifth generation of employees still making the same high quality products. Using the well established recipes, each ink is still hand made using traditional, gentle methods for consistent quality that make this German brand so great. These traditional recipes and production methods allow for renewable resources.

Rohrer & Klingner Reviews

I bought "Scabiosa", which is an iron-gall-based ink in a dusty purple color. It has excellent water resistance, great flow, pretty good feathering resistance on good and above average paper, and thus far has been very low maintenance for my pen. Great value too! I also really like the bottle: it has a minimalist design, dark brown glass with a contrasting satin-matte bright aluminum twist-off cap.

The Rohrer & Klingner Cassia is just one of the prettiest purples out there. A nice shade that to me looks like a bright, true purple. Great ink.

Glass
Lovely glass dip pen. Sturdier than you'd think, too - I've clanged it against a glass a little harder than I should have a couple of times, and it's holding up fine. The dip pen itself is so pretty and makes ink testing a breeze.

Glass
My first experience with a glass dip pen and extremely pleased. Ordered both colors. Very smooth writing, held the ink very well and was able to write like a pro. Wish these came in more colors, would buy them all. Based my purchase off of numerous reviews of this particular brand. Shipping was fast and will come back soon.

Glass
This review is for Rohrer-Kolninger glass dip pen: What a beautifully crafted glass pen with rather a simple shape! It feels somewhat heavier than other brand glass dip pens. It feels good to hold in my hand. One thing I noticed is that this pen seems to hold the ink much longer period of time than other brand pens. When I thought I wiped off the ink from the flutes of the writing tip with a paper towel, I was still able to write few more words without re-dipping. That means that the flutes are better engineered to hold the ink more efficiently. So it is advisable that we wash the writing tip under the running faucet water before dipping into a different color ink to avoid the color mixing of the ink.

Glass
Writing with a glass dip pen is a newly discovered pleasure for me. Of course, there is the practical benefit of using it to test sample inks. But writing with a glass dip pen is uniquely satisfying. Plus, I appreciate the simplicity and the history of a technology that dates back to the 17th century. The process of writing with a dip pen allows me to collect my thoughts and organize ideas before committing them to paper and I find that I look for excuses to use it.

One final comment - the dip pen is a wonderful tool for applying shimmering inks. It doesn't clog and cleans with a simple wipe from a damp paper towel. What can I say? I love this pen!

One more final comment - if you have someone in your life who appreciates finer things, this and a quality ink makes for a wonderful gift. I guarantee this is a one-of-a-kind present.
