Excellent starter pen. The Petrol color is nice. It's a Lamy Safari - what more can I say?

Lamy Safari in Petrol (rinsed out before using the enclosed Lamy blue cartridge Nov 2018). I knew this pen was problematic because of the way I have to hold my pens due to increasing arthritis, but everyone seemed to rave about them, and I liked this limited edition color, so I let my inner child win. Wrong move.

The triangular grip it forces one to use makes my hand and wrist hurt in odd places and it forces me to write slightly larger than I normally do, which is probably already larger than average. I had not used it in about a week, and it got going after three long strokes. A second annoying characteristic was frequent missing / skipping on beginning up and downward strokes, having to go back and fill in.

Sadly, it seems like a lightweight, durable pen, but I couldn't wait to use up the ink. It went back in the box and has not been out since early 2019.

This was my first Lamy but will not be my last. I like every aspect of this pen: comfortable to use, extremely reliable, lightweight, smooth writer, interchangeable nibs, snaps closed, window to see ink level-very hard to beat!, especially for the price.

I had heard so many good things about Lamy Safari, I felt I had to try one on my fountain pen journey. Sadly, I was not overly impressed by this pen. It is not a smooth writer, often experiences hard starts, and just the overall experience is not as good as I had hoped. It maybe the hype led me to expect more than was reasonable. There are other pens in this price range that suit me better.

My first Lamy, and it has exceeded my expectations. Its enjoyable to write with and feels good in hand. The only thong I've come across is the medium nib is too wode for my tastes, I'm used to a pilot metropolitan fine nib, but that is the only thing I'll be changing. Otherwise, I love it.

A more discrete and serious looking pen than the shiny primary colored Lego Safaris. Classic Bauhaus design. Smooth writer.

This review is for the Lamy Safari Petrol with a fine nib. The pen came without a converter and only a cartridge. I'm not sure it was supposed to come that way. As always I first washed the pen out thoroughly and dried it over night before filling it with ink. Also had to buy a converter for it locally. The pen was very dry and scratchy. Had filled Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji in it. After the ink ran out I changed it to Lamy blue-black. Still scratchy. Found a local Lamy Store and they Cleaned it with a vibrating machine of sorts into which they place the section and nib with feed. Now it write like a charm. Even though the nib is fine it is buttery smooth and has a lovely flow. For the price it is really good and you cant expect a luxurious pen in terms of trim and nib materials. It's a bit light in the hands and plasticy to look at but if you go beyond that it write very well. Thinking of getting the medium nib variants in maybe a different colour.

I went through a lot of issues trying to get the shipment outside the US and Ron was there all the while sorting out the problems and I'm grateful for his support (in spite of my many emails and calls to him with loads of probably impertinent questions and difficulties I was having).

Certainly recommend this pen especially for newbies to fountain pens. You can learn a lot of tweaking techniques with this one and not worry if something goes wrong...

I'll be honest, when I unboxed the pen I was concerned about the texture on the feed. I should have never worried. This pen was designed by the best. I also picked up the matching ink, wow, they look fabulous together.

This is my fourth Lamy Safari and it did not disappoint. I love the color and how these pens write. Perhaps they are starter pens but they are more than great for me and my purposes!
