Conklin Word Gauge Fountain Pens Reviews
I loved this pen when it arrived and used it for several months before discovering it's flawed construction. First the refill plunger broke when I was refilling it - I was charged for the repair because the mfr. claimed it wasn't a "manufacturing defect." This past weekend the pen split at the point where it was screwed into the cap - another weak spot in the design. This time I tossed it in the trash. It wrote well enough - the ink flow for a medium was a bit too strong but otherwise, a pleasant pen. If only it was made to last.

Very pleased with this pen. The actual pen is much more beautiful in person because photos can't do the swirls justice. The nib is A+++ for steel. The piston seems a bit sticky as compared to all my others (first fill or years old) but will try a lubricating ink next fill. My first fill was Diamine Shimmer. Bad idea. Work great but defeats the window and word count feature. The word count is cute, but I got a fine and the very large reservoir will write a bunch more than 5000 words. A double broad writing on paper towel may use up the ink in 5000, still it is a fun idea I have not seen. The build is much better than my other Conklins and they are good.

This is a very good pen. The Conklin brand is new to me but apparently they have been around a long time. Their pens are sturdy and well made. The fine nib is smooth and ink flow seems about perfect. The attraction of the word gauge is the large ink reservoir yet the pen is not unwieldy. Pen Chalet offers the group buy discount, something I never saw from any other company. Through the group buy, you get a great price too.

After receiving this pen from Pen Chalet, I opened the shipping packaging to reveal a beautiful leather style box with Conklin embossed in gold on the top. I opened the box to find a very nice blue Conklin Word Gauge pen. The Blue is both dark and light that swirls around the body of the pen. The pen was heavier that I expected - which was a pleasant surprise. After inking it up with Waterman Inspired Blue, I was very please at how smooth it wrote. The weight of the pen adds to the writing pleasure to an already smooth writer. I am very impressed and happy to add this pen to my collection. Pen Chalet did a great job with their video describing the pen and their usual quick shipping.
