Caran dAche 849 Fountain Pens Reviews
These are okay pens. They look like they cost more than they actually do, they write well, and they’re easy to take care of. They are surprisingly light, which leaves them feeling a little cheap. But... they’re smaller and nice enough for a beginner pen.

Swiss made excellence: superior nibs, exacting quality and craftsmanship ! I got one in every color. These nibs write like 14k nibs that cost four times as much. I'm partial to Swiss made engineering art and precision and these fountain pens measure up in every way. Superb !

The fluorescent pink is VERY fluorescent. All the images I've seen do not capture it. Know this! The extra fine nib is not a great extra fine. I have the medium bib as well - it's a nice good flowing medium steel nib. Tested with included idyllic blue cartridge. The step between section and body is noticeable if you care about that. This is a perfect office and meeting pen for me. Fit and finish and snap cap, clip are perfect.

I love the look of this pen! It reminds me of when I was a child and looked at some of my grandpa's old (ballpoint) pens from the 70's, 80's! I definitely got it for its aesthetic value and I was curious about the brand.
I got an EF nib and it seems like the tines are a touch off, resulting in a writing experience that isn't the greatest. I prefer writing with it unposted and the weight seems fine for me. The section is a bit narrow.
For looks alone, I want to get all the colors but the quality has me wondering if this is the best choice. I am a somewhat economical shopper.

I really love this pen - I got the yellow one, which pops quite a bit but is still very professional looking (so I can take it to meetings without feeling out of place). I love the way it writes - my pens need to work and write a lot and this one can - I got a converter and it holds the ink well. Love this pen!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS!
Box open (Box is nothing too extraordinary, but functional).
It IS thin.
It’s long too.
But I like that look; a sort of industrial meets traditional. Yep, looks fine so far.
7/10
APPEARANCE AND DESIGN
If you like the 849 ball point, you will like the look of its fountain pen bigger cousin.
It’s the same design – just a little wider and a little longer.
It’s still slender for a fountain pen; and I’m not yet sure how it will go for long sessions; however, it has some nice features and remains an attractive writing vehicle.
