Herbin's 1670 Caroube de Chypre is a beautiful, rich chocolate brown with caramel highlights. It flows nicely. With too fine a nib, the caramel highlights are harder to see, but still there.

Like the deepest, darkest, sparkling depths of a turquoise blue sea with a hint of red sheen. Nice shimmer and shading.

Probably one of the most enjoyable inks available at any price. I will say that it's important to use the pen that is running on this ink daily,if possible. I had my Edson filled with this ink and a situation came up where fountain pens were not only discouraged,they were strictly forbidden; consequently, the Edson sat unused for several days. Upon my return I was alarmed to find that the shimmer had clogged up the pen, preventing any ink from flowing. More than a little upset with myself for my wanton disregard for the care of a cherished pen, I soaked the nib overnight and all was well.

This ink is incredible! Its dry time is pretty good compared to other shimmer type inks, which is important to me because I am a left handed writer and tend to smear ink. The shimmer shows up really well in my medium nib and it is a great red to use for redlining to give my redlines a little bit of extra compared to others. The bottle looks amazing on my desk and is a great statement piece that often brings up conversations about the lost art of ink wells.
