The Laban pen company began in 1981 by John and Charles Hu. The brothers built their own factory with a goal to make the highest quality silver and rhodium plated writing instruments. In 1993 the Laban pen company created their Filigree line of metal overlays and established itself as one of the major international manufacturers of fountain pens and writing instruments.
In 1997 the Laban pen company was selected to make an exclusive line of pens for the Vatican Museum. Other unique and exclusive pens include the dragon pen first created by Laban in 2004. This pen has a three dimensional dragon head for a cap. They were awarded the Lewis & Clark Award from Royal Academy of Arts of the United Kingdom for the best writing instrument in 2004 for the Laban Dragon fountain pen.
