I received the Platinum President as promised on time and well packaged. I've had the pen for about one year and can say that I would purchase it again in a heart beat, yes it's a great pen in my opinion. At the first inking it did run slightly dry but a flush resolved the issue and since the second inking the ink flow has been good. I have a medium nib that writes slightly narrower than the Sailor 1911 and the pilot custom 74. I have large hands and the pen feels comfortable and well balanced. As far as looks, it has a subtle beauty and timeless design, it resembles a MontBlanc. I can recommend this pen highly to anyone who likes finer writing nibs that have very
slight good feedback.

First the down side. The pen feels less substantial in the hand than it should. Not necessarily "cheap" but definitely "cheaper." Everything else about it is great. The nib is wonderful. I opted for the medium and it is definitely narrower than a Western medium, but it is smooth and never a hint of skipping. The ink capacity in the converter is quite nice. Overall I like this pen a lot.

A great pen because of : 1) Nib- the smoothest of the Asians; 2) price- -a bargain cf. to Sailor, etc.; 3) heft- pen fills the hand (& is not too heavy nor too light; 4) colors available. This pen is lighter than the Mont Blanc 146 but just as pleasing. Quality is excellent. I also have another with the music nib which is outstanding for signatures. My President has the fine nib which I prefer & it is not overly scratchy.

I bought the beautiful burgundy with the medium nib. It is a wonderful pen, nib & great writer. It is a joy to use. Very elegant pen. This was my first Platinum pen & I later went on to get quite a few more Century 3776, Pur & some preppy pens just for fun.

I use a Platinum Brown ink cartridge (this color does not come in a bottle) and it is a lovely writing experience.

Overall, I love this pen! The nib is fantastic. It is very smooth without a hint of a skip since I have been writing it it. This is my first Japanese pen and I had heard that their nib sizes run smaller than equivalent German nibs and this is definitely the case. I ordered my President with a Medium nib and it is definitely finer than any German pen that I own. The converter has a large capacity and once it is inked, it will last a long time. If I had any negative comment it would be that the body feels not as substantial as a Pelikan. I don't mean to say that it is cheap, but the Pelikan has a more solid feel to it than the Platinum. This in no way cancels out the nib which is absolutely wonderful and beautiful to boot! Overall an excellent fountain pen that I think is worthy of consideration.

Is the section the same diameter as the 3776 Century, or is it more "girthy?"

The Platinum President fountain pen and the Platinum 3776 are roughly the same shape and size. The difference is the Platinum President fountain pen comes with an 18k gold nib instead of the 14k gold nib on the 3776.

Does the pen come with a converter for bottled ink?
