About Podium Black Montegrappa F1® Speed Limited Edition
Following 2020's release of the F1® Seventy, all lights are green for Montegrappa's next official Formula 1® project: the limited-edition F1® Speed collection. The Montegrappa F1® Speed Limited Edition fountain pen is a modern thoroughbred pushing the envelope with hi-tech materials and finishes creating a silhouette with obvious allusions to Formula 1 high-tech design.
The Podium Black release is a high-gloss black lacquer limited edition with yellow gold plating, and the 2nd color variant in Montegrappa’s F1® SPEED collection. Released in time for the start of the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship season. The new update adopts a bold, champion’s aesthetic to contrast the sporty finishing of F1® SPEED – RACING RED that was previously released.
The Montegrappa F1 Speed Limited Edition Podium Black fountain pen features carbon fibre to create a grip section with unrivaled strength and weight. The same carbon fibre material was also used is in the construction of the pen cap.
Additional hardware for the limited edition was milled and cast from brass and protected with thick, precious- metal plating. Numerically-controlled machining is also used to shape a unique 3D-model step to create a smooth transition from barrel to grip section, extensive experience and prototyping led to a design with enhanced comfort writers can feel confident handling.
Other materials provide playful enhancements that double down on the silhouette’s celebration of speed. A sterling-silver wheel hub featured within the brass finial replicates Formula 1® racing slicks. At the opposite end of the Limited Edition Montegrappa F1 Speed Podium Black fountain pen, the serial number housing in scorched stainless steel pulls inspiration from car exhaust systems.
Available in rollerball and fountain pen modes, F1® SPEED balances the dynamics of Formula 1® design with the ergonomics of fine writing. Fountain pens are cartridge/converter-driven, and are fitted with a handmade 18K gold custom nib, available in six writing grades.
All variants of F1® SPEED are issued in limited editions of 372 numbered pieces, honoring the top speed ever recorded in an FIA Formula One World Championship race: 372.6 km/h by Juan Pablo.
Aerodynamic contours inspired by lines of Formula 1’s next-generation 2022 design package include: a radical flared barrel, as well as a graduated step and clip. F1® branding on the clip and the Montegrappa insignia are both hand-enameled and boldly positioned on the finial tire element. Each cartridge/converter fountain pen is fitted with a 6mm 18K gold custom F1® logo nib.
Montegrappa's F1® Speed Limited Edition pen design is also available in Rollerball. Custom packaging for the Montegrappa F1® Speed Limited Edition pens is a scaled-up version of Montegrappa's Premium packaging and features the F1® logo.
