About Red Conklin Exclusive Ebonite Word Gauge
Discover the Conklin Exclusive Ebonite Word Gauge fountain pens, available only at Pen Chalet. Each Italian-made Conklin Exclusive Ebonite Word Gauge piston filler fountain pen features beautiful marbleized ebonite and complementary black trim. The name of the collection is tastefully engraved on the barrel along with the limited edition number (unique to each pen). Pens are limited to 33 pieces of each color and each are individually numbered.
Featuring innovative technology first seen in Conklin's Heritage Word Gauge™ in the 1930’s, this modern-day version allows you to view fountain pen ink levels through the pen barrel's transparent window. Different "gauge" marks along the ink viewing window indicate the approximate number of words you can write using the ink remaining in the pen. This fun and unique feature is exclusively available with the Conklin Word Gauge pen collection.

Conklin Exclusive Ebonite Word Gauge Reviews
the pen is just beautiful. The only "negative" aspect is ordering from Germany is tricky. At the end you must add approx 50 Euro extra costs for taxes! In this case it is a lot of money comparing to the price of the pen.....
For me it means no chance to buy another pen from the States.........may companies like pen chalet must find way to avoid that.

I got all three colors, and I happened to grab the box with the orange pen in it when I wanted to ink a pen and put it in my pocket. This particular pen has the Jowo Omni-flex nib installed, and I am thoroughly impressed by it.
The pen has a little mass to it and is a very comfortable pen to write with. Posted, the balance shifts to put the center of gravity on the thumb; unposted, the center of gravity is just about centered between the thumb and the forefinger. The pen has that ineluctable ebonite feel, and a quick rub will elicit the burning-rubber smell of genuine ebonite. It fills without drama when used with the Pineider Pen Filler Inkwell, also available from Pen Chalet. And the word gauge probably isn't accurate, but it works nicely as a huge ink view window.
The pen also seems to seal well when capped, in that I haven't seen much ink evaporation at all with it.
As for the nib, it isn't the Omniflex 1.0 nib. This one writes smoothly, with firm control of the ink flow and enough line variation to add considerable interest to the written page or signature. It's not a wet noodle, and pushing it too hard will take the writer to the edge of the ancient map that bore the legend, "Here There Be Dragons", but it is quite serviceable -- enough so that I will be refitting all my DuraFlex pens with this new nib.

These pens are absolutely beautiful. I'm biased; I like Conklins anyway. And I would have to get one in a Jade or Walnut color too, if it showed up on the site.

Nice. The piston feels a bit tight, but that's probably a good thing. A loose piston would probably be leaky.
