Monteverde Charoite does not.<\/strong> In this Monteverde Charoite ink<\/a> review, we’re looking at a saturated dark violet with a pronounced blue cast\u2014a true \u201cblurple\u201d that feels colorful and expressive while staying dark enough for readable everyday writing.<\/p>\n

Our test revealed a wet-writing ink with a surprisingly quick dry time, excellent behavior on Rhodia paper, and much better water resistance than we expected. Monteverde USA<\/a> has been creating writing instruments since 1999, with a particular emphasis on color, approachable luxury, and products designed for everyday use. Fountain pen fans may also know the company for its extensive ink selection: Monteverde says its lineup now includes more than 180 fountain pen inks.<\/p>\n

One distinguishing feature of Monteverde fountain pen ink is the company’s ITF, or Ink Treatment Formula<\/strong>. According to Monteverde, ITF is designed to improve ink flow, extend cap-off time, and help lubricate and protect a fountain pen’s feeding system against corrosion and clogging.<\/p>\n

That emphasis on flow certainly fits what we experienced with this week’s ink.<\/p>\n

Get to Know the Monteverde Gemstone Ink Series<\/h2>\n

Charoite is part of the Monteverde Gemstone Ink Collection<\/strong><\/a>, a fountain pen ink series inspired by the colors and visual character of gemstones. Current colors in the Monteverde Gemstone collection<\/a> include shades such as Tanzanite, Sapphire, Moonstone, Olivine, Malachite, Topaz, Ruby, Fireopal, Garnet, Amethyst, and Charoite.<\/p>\n

So, what does Monteverde Charoite fountain pen ink<\/a> actually look like on paper?<\/p>\n

Based on our test, we’d describe it as a deep, saturated violet with a strong blue cast<\/strong>. Fountain pen people have a wonderfully efficient word for colors like this: blurple<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In normal writing, the blue influence is immediately noticeable. At first glance, particularly in a finer or wetter line, you could almost mistake Charoite for an unusually vivid dark blue. Look again, though, and the purple becomes unmistakable.<\/p>\n

The cotton swab portions of our ink test made that violet character even clearer. Where we deposited more ink across the paper, Charoite revealed a richer purple tone while retaining its cool blue undertone.<\/p>\n

The result is an ink with enough saturation and depth to be highly legible without sacrificing personality. If standard blue feels a little too predictable but bright purple feels inappropriate for everyday writing, Charoite occupies an attractive space between the two.<\/p>\n

For this ink review, we tested Monteverde Charoite using:<\/p>\n

J. Herbin glass dip pen: <\/strong>The glass dip pen produces a line comparable to approximately a medium fountain pen nib.<\/p>\n

Rhodia lined paper: <\/strong>As always, keep in mind that fountain pen ink can perform differently depending on nib size, pen flow, paper, and even environmental conditions. Our results represent what happened with this specific combination.<\/p>\n

Ink Bottle and Packaging<\/h2>\n

Monteverde’s Charoite bottle gets points for practicality.<\/p>\n

The bottle\u00a0sits inside a\u00a0cube-shaped outer package<\/strong> that keeps it secure while staying<\/span>\u00a0easy to open and access.<\/p>\n

Once removed, the ink bottle itself has a wide, round base with a substantial bottom<\/strong>, giving it a sturdy stance on the desk. That’s not the most glamorous ink characteristic until you’ve nearly knocked over an open bottle of fountain pen ink…at which point stability suddenly becomes extremely glamorous.<\/p>\n

The broad base noticeably reduces the likelihood of tipping, while the large bottle opening<\/strong> makes it easy to access the ink with a fountain pen nib or other filling tool.<\/p>\n

For frequent inkers, both features are genuinely useful.<\/p>\n
