Herbin spiral glass dip pen<\/a> on Rhodia dot pad paper. The J. Herbin dip pen has a tip most closely comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib. As always, remember as you read this review and consider our review results that different papers or different nib sizes may produce different results!\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>What Sort of Ink Bottle Does Robert Oster Use for the MudPack Collection Inks?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nRobert Oster Muddy Crown ink comes in Robert Oster\u2019s standard PET environmentally friendly plastic 50 ml. bottle with a leak proof cap. Each bottle is identical with a simple white label printed with a representation of the color of Muddy Crown. The ink bottles come with no additional packaging, which keeps the cost down. In 2022, Robert Oster has started including a seal on the top of the ink bottle opening underneath the screw on cap to further minimize any ink leaking during shipment.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>How Much Do Inks in Robert Oster&#8217;s MudPack Collection Cost?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nRobert Oster&#8217;s MudPack inks are a very reasonable mid-range priced ink for the larger capacity 50ml. ink.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>How Did This Week&#8217;s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nWe use the 1-dip test to see how far one dip can write on paper (dipping the pen into the ink only once). Muddy Crown ink very easily wrote across the paper on all three writing samples with lots of ink to spare. (Using one dip per writing sample:\u00a0 \u201cS\u201d \u201cX\u201d and scribble lines, seen above).\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>How Fast Does Muddy Crown ink Dry?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nDuring our ink review, Muddy Crown ink showed a dry time of approximately 6-7 seconds with medium saturation. We consider Muddy Crown ink a great everyday ink choice.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>Does This Week&#8217;s Fountain Pen Ink Bleed Through?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nWe saw no bleeding during normal use on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penchalet.com\/pen_accessories\/memo_books_notebooks\/rhodia_notebooks\/\">Rhodia dot pad paper<\/a> and we only saw very slight bleeding during the heavy saturated cotton swab test (and only at the wettest points).\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>Was There Any Feathering During the Muddy Crown Ink Review?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nWe saw no feathering during normal use. We did see some slight additional feathering during the water test, but that&#8217;s to be expected for a non-waterproof ink.\n\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nRobert Oster Muddy Crown ink is not actually a waterproof ink, so you may be surprised that we conducted the water test at all. However, regular readers will tell you that we always put featured inks to the water test regardless of whether they\u2019re designed to be waterproof or not. (We just like having all the information). Our standard water test consists of letting our ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before we run a wet cotton swab over the sample to observe the effect. Here are the results we saw during today\u2019s review:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Medium color smearing<\/li>\n \t<li>Lines still very legible<\/li>\n \t<li>Some very slight distortion and line fading<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:heading -->\n<h2>Does Robert Oster MudPack Muddy Crown Ink Have Good Shading Traits?<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nRobert Oster MudPack Muddy Crown ink showed some possible shading traits depending on your nib and your penmanship.\n<h2>Final Conclusion on Robert Oster MudPack Muddy Crown Ink:<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n\nThis week&#8217;s featured ink is a reasonably priced 50ml ink in a nice, dark, dusty purple with a slight brown tint and sheen.
