Robert Oster Santa’s Hangover ink is a nice, soft, relaxed red color with pink undertones. It\u2019s not a vibrant, fire engine red, which is on target since in this particular scenario, Santa\u2019s hung over. He\u2019s not his usual cheery, vibrant, red-cheeked self. Santa\u2019s Hangover red ink shows up well on paper, but is also soft and inviting. It\u2019s definitely a fun fountain pen ink to use for holiday notes, projects and cards! \nInk Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):<\/h2>\n

We used a French-made J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium fountain pen nib) and Rhodia dot pad paper.<\/p>\n

Let’s Talk About the Robert Oster Ink Bottle:<\/h2>\n

Santa\u2019s Hangover ink comes in Robert Oster\u2019s standard PET environmentally friendly plastic 50 ml. bottle with a leak proof cap. Each bottle is identical with a simple white label printed in the color of the ink. The Regular Edition lid is black, and the Shake \u2018N\u2019 Shimmy lid is silver, so it\u2019s easy to tell the two types of Robert Oster inks apart simply by glancing at the ink\u2019s lid. There\u2019s no additional packaging (which is great because it avoids unnecessary waste AND keeps the cost of the ink down).<\/p>\n

How Much Does Robert Oster Fountain Pen Ink Cost?<\/h2>\n

How Did This Week’s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?<\/h2>\n

We conducted a 1-dip test with Robert Oster Santa’s Hangover ink using a J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen and Rhodia dot pad paper. (For the 1-Dip Test, we dip the pen in ink once for each of three writing samples, “S,” “X,” and scribble lines, to see how well the pen performs). Santa’s Hangover fountain pen ink easily wrote across the paper on all three writing samples with lots of ink to spare.<\/p>\n

How Fast Does Robert Oster Santa’s Hangover Ink Dry?<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Santa’s Hangover fountain pen ink showed a dry time of about 6-7 seconds with medium saturation, which is very reasonable so we recommend it for everyday use.<\/p>\n

Does Robert Oster Santa’s Hangover Ink Bleed Through?<\/h2>\n

We saw no bleeding during normal use on Rhodia paper. We saw a very, very slight amount of bleed through during the heavy saturated cotton swab test (but only at the wettest points).<\/p>\n

Was There Any Feathering While Using Santa’s Hangover Ink?<\/h2>\n

We saw no feathering during normal use on Rhodia dot pad paper. And no additional feathering during the water test.<\/p>\n

How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?<\/h2>\n

For the water test, we let an ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before running a wet cotton swab over the sample. Robert Oster Santa’s Hangover ink isn’t waterproof, however, there was only very light color smearing during our review, and the lines were still pretty clear and legible.<\/p>\n

Does the Fountain Pen Ink Have Good Shading Traits?<\/h2>\n

This Robert Oster ink has nice shading possibilities with the right nib and penmanship.<\/p>\n

This week’s ink is a very reasonably priced ink (especially for an imported, Limited Edition, 50 ml. fountain pen ink).
