Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For this week\u2019s review we used a French-made J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen (with a tip comparable to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on Rhodia dot pad paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Ink Bottle Does Noodler’s Use?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Noodler’s Baltimore Canyon Blue ink comes in the new standard Noodler’s 3 oz. glass bottle. The Noodler\u2019s ink bottle is simple, functional but plain, and as such, it helps keep the costs down for Noodler\u2019s inks, which continues to be one of best \u201cvalue\u201d ink buys out there. Noodler\u2019s always fills their ink bottles to the absolute brim, so you don\u2019t lost out on even one drop of possible ink. How Did This Week\u2019s Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We conducted a 1-dip test with Baltimore Canyon Blue fountain pen ink using a J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen, and Rhodia dot pad paper<\/a>. (For the 1-Dip Test, we dip the pen in ink once for each of three writing samples, \u201cS,\u201d \u201cX,\u201d and scribble lines to see how well the pen performs. Baltimore Canyon Blue easily wrote across the paper on all three writing samples with ink to spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Fast Does this Noodler’s Ink Dry?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Baltimore Canyon Blue fountain pen ink showed a dry time of about 6-7 seconds with medium to high saturation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does Baltimore Canyon Blue Ink Bleed Through?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We saw no bleeding during normal use although we did see some slight bleeding during the heavy saturated cotton swab test (at the wettest points).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was There Any Feathering While Using Noodler’s Baltimore Canyon Blue Ink?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We saw no feathering during normal use on Rhodia paper, and we noticed almost no additional feathering during the water test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Does the Ink Stand Up to Water?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the water test, we let an ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before running a wet cotton swab over the sample. This week’s ink is not meant to be waterproof, but it did hold up to water quite well. We saw no real line distortion or fading, but we did see some light color smearing for a blue ink. The lines remained very legible with almost no distortion at all and almost zero additional feathering. This week\u2019s review ink held up very well to the traditional water test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does this Week’s Fountain Pen Ink Have Good Shading Traits?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With this Noodler’s ink you\u2019ll see some shading and possibly a little sheening, but it will depend on the nib being used and your penmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final Conclusion on Noodler’s Baltimore Canyon Blue Ink:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The most obvious benefit of working with Noodler\u2019s Baltimore Canyon Blue ink is the color; this Noodler\u2019s ink is a bright, vibrant blue great for everyday use (with a reasonable dry time of 6-7 seconds).
