Each Robert Oster ink bottle is identical with a simple white label printed with a sample swab of the ink color. Shake &#8216;N&#8217; Shimmy ink bottles have a silver-colored lid, which makes them stand out amidst Robert Oster Signature Ink Series (non-shimmer inks) that have black lids. Look for discounted fountain pen ink prices at PenChalet.com.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Did Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm Ink Fair in the 1-Dip Test?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We used the 1-dip test to see how far the ink can write on paper with &#8220;1 dip.&#8221; We dipped our J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen in Blue Velvet Storm shimmering ink once for each writing sample shown above (&#8220;S,&#8221; &#8220;X,&#8221; and scribble lines). This week&#8217;s ink easily wrote across the paper on all three writing samples and had a lot of ink to spare.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Fast Does Robert Oster Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Fountain Pen Ink Dry?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robert Oster Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm fountain pen ink had a dry time of approximately 11-13 seconds with medium saturation. 11-13 seconds is a little longer than we like to see for an everyday ink, but shimmering ink generally isn&#8217;t used as every day, in the office ink anyway, so we weren&#8217;t too disappointed. A shimmering fountain pen ink like this is usually reserved for special occasions and unique projects anyway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does Blue Velvet Storm Fountain Pen Ink Bleed Through?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During normal use, we saw no bleeding. During the heavy saturated cotton swab test, we saw some ever-so-slight bleeding, but only at the wettest point.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was There Any Feathering While Using Blue Velvet Storm Ink?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During normal use on Rhodia paper, we saw no feathering. When we put Robert Oster&#8217;s Blue Velvet Storm Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy ink to the water test, there was some slight feathering, but it&#8217;s not a waterproof ink, so that is to be expected!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Does Blue Velvet Storm Ink Stand Up to Water?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We included a water test in the review of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penchalet.com\/ink_refills\/fountain_pen_ink\/robert_oster_shake_n_shimmy_fountain_pen_ink.html\">Robert Oster Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm ink<\/a> (even though this is not a waterproof ink). For the water test, we let an ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before running a wet cotton swab over the sample. The water test resulted in some heavy color smearing, which is typical for a dark ink color. The lines were still clear and legible, although they did show some very slight distortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does Robert Oster Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm Ink Have Good Shading &amp; Shimmering Traits?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robert Oster Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm ink showed slight possible shading traits, particularly if you are using a nib that allows ink flow variation. (If you&#8217;re looking for ink flow variation for shading, we suggest a stub or italic nib). Blue Velvet Storm shimmering ink also showed a nice, subtle silver shimmer effect when properly used. Final Conclusion on Robert Oster Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm Fountain Pen Ink:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robert Oster&#8217;s Shake &#8216;N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm fountain pen ink is a mid-range priced ink for the 50 ml. bottle size. The beautiful, dark blue-green teal ink color is made by well-regarded (and prolific) Australian ink company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penchalet.com\/ink_refills\/fountain_pen_ink\/robert_oster_bottled_fountain_pen.html\">Robert Oster Signature Ink<\/a>. Inks arrive in simple, but effective (and environmentally friendly) packaging. The dry time was a little longer than we like (more than 10 seconds), but we&#8217;re okay with it as this is a shimmering ink, and therefore, typically not an everyday ink choice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like other shimmering inks, Robert Oster Shake&#8217; N&#8217; Shimmy Blue Velvet Storm ink is best when used with a large tip pen, calligraphy, dip, or brush pen to get the most consistent influx of the ink&#8217;s shimmer. When using shimmering fountain pen inks, we suggest cleaning your pen weekly to avoid any clogging in the nib or feed.
