Ink Review Testing Factors (to keep things scientific):<\/h2>\n

We put together a new fountain pen ink review each week, so it\u2019s safe to say that we\u2019re not new to the ink review game. One thing we learned quickly is that when you\u2019re measuring or gauging fountain pen ink performance, the materials you\u2019re using during the tests make a big difference. So, we always list the products used during each week\u2019s ink review upfront.
\nWhile reviewing Krishna Waterproof Black fountain pen ink, we used a J Herbin spiral glass dip pen<\/a> (which has a tip similar to a medium-fine fountain pen nib) on French-made Rhodia dot pad paper. Please remember that different papers and nib sizes may produce different results.<\/p>\n

What Sort of Ink Bottle Does Krishna Use?<\/h2>\n

Krishna waterproof black ink comes in 30 ml. or 1 oz glass, medicine-type bottles with sealed lids. The labeling is simple and clear. And while the inks come packed in an elementary cardboard box, they do not have much internal packaging to protect the ink during transit.<\/p>\n

How Did Waterproof Black Ink Fair in the NEW 1 Dip Test?<\/h2>\n

Krishna\u2019s Waterproof Black fountain pen ink performed well during our newest test, the 1 Dip Test. We used the one dip test to see how far one dip could write on paper. Dipping the pen into Krishna\u2019s Waterproof Black ink one time, we were able to write across the paper on all three writing samples easily. (We used one dip per writing sample). Writing samples included: S, X, and scribble lines (see the photograph of the samples above).<\/p>\n

How Fast Does Krishna Waterproof Black Ink Dry?<\/h2>\n

Krishna Waterproof Black fountain pen ink had a dry time of approximately 11-12 seconds, which was longer than we anticipated. (At Pen Chalet, we generally consider any dry time under 10 seconds to be reasonably fast and appropriate for daily use, so we would have to conclude that Krishna waterproof black isn\u2019t necessarily an everyday ink choice).<\/p>\n

Does Waterproof Black Ink Bleed Through?<\/h2>\n

We saw absolutely no bleed through at all during normal use of Krishna\u2019s Waterproof fountain pen ink. We didn\u2019t even see any bleed through during the heavy saturated cotton swab test.<\/p>\n

Was There Any Feathering?<\/h2>\n

We saw no feathering during normal use and almost no additional feathering during the water test.<\/p>\n

How Does Krishna Waterproof Black Ink Stand Up to Water?<\/h2>\n

During the water test, Lyrebird Waterproof Black ink held up well. We saw no line distortion and very slight (if any) additional feathering. The lines were clear and crisp, with only very slight color smearing when running the wet swab over the sample. (For the water test, we let an ink sample dry for about 3 minutes before running a wet cotton swab over the sample). We categorize Krishna waterproof black in as water-resistant, not quite 100% waterproof, but very close!<\/p>\n

Does Waterproof Black Fountain Pen Ink Have Good Shading Traits?<\/h2>\n

We saw a lot of shading traits during our review of Waterproof Black ink: deep, dark black, soft black, and light grey. Remember that shading it all about your penmanship and the nibs you are using!<\/p>\n

Final Conclusion on Krishna Waterproof Black Ink:<\/h2>\n

This week\u2019s fountain pen ink<\/a> comes to you from Krishna Inks! We deemed Krishna Lyrebird Waterproof Black \u201cwater-resistant\u201d and very inexpensive. This ink is a beautiful, dark color and offers excellent shading traits. It has a longer dry time than expected, and it\u2019 not quite 100% waterproof, but it\u2019s very close.
