J Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal Ink is the third color released in J. Herbin\u2019s 1798 series of ink<\/a>. Although the brand was created in 1670, the J. Herbin 1798 Ink Collection celebrates the year that \u201cJacques\u201d or J. Herbin first introduced his own line of inks. Each bottle of both the 1670 collection and now the 1798 collection contains a shimmer or small flecks that provide a wonderful sparkle to the ink.\u00a0We are a proud retailer of all J. Herbin ink<\/a> colors and carry each of their ink lines.<\/p>\n

Last year’s initial release of the 1798 ink was a success with the Am\u00e9thyste de L\u2019Oural ink, a deep royal amethyst color. This year\u2019s color is the J Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink, a bright blue which trends towards turquoise, but a little bit darker than last weeks Robert Oster Silver Fire & Ice ink<\/a>. The mineral of Kyanite is mined in the region surrounding N\u00e9pal and is known as a nobel mineral due to its similarities with sapphire. This beautiful blue color is then offset and illuminated with a shimmer from flecks of silver, which translates to an absolutely beautiful color.<\/p>\n

J Herbin 1798 Kyanite du Nepal Ink Review<\/p><\/div>\n

During our review of Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink we found the following traits that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

We used a J. Herbin spiral glass dip pen for our review of Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink on Rhodia dot pad paper. Different writing instruments and paper may produce different results.<\/p>\n

Bottle Size<\/h2>\n

The bottle of Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink we received to test is a small 10 ml. glass bottle. The ink, however, will come in the normal 50 ml. J Herbin 1798 glass bottle that is similar to the J Herbin 1670 bottle. It is a heavy weighted inkwell type bottle with a large wax dipped lid, allowing for easy opening and pen filling.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink will retail for $32.00, which makes it a high mid-range to high-end ink option. However, the color, presentation, and bottle are worth the price.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

We found a dry time of approximately 6-7 seconds during our review of Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink, which is quite reasonable for a shimmering or high saturation ink. Larger or wetter nibs and different paper may produce different results.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

We found no bleeding during our review of Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink. Even during the cotton swab test and water test, there was no bleeding noticed using Rhodia dot pad paper.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

During normal use, we did not experience any feathering at all using a dip pen on Rhodia paper. However, during our water test, there was some slight feathering when the soaking cotton swab touched the ink sample.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

We conducted a water test, where we ran a wet cotton swab over a dried ink sample of Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink. Our results were typical for non-waterproof ink, significant color smearing, and some slight additional feathering and line distortion. However, the line distortion and feathering were actually pretty nominal and the lines remained legible and clear.<\/p>\n

Shading<\/h2>\n

Jacques Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink produces some nice shading between deep blue colors to a lighter turquoise color. Mix these color variations in with some silver shimmer and the effect is quite stunning.<\/p>\n

Conclusions about J Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal Ink<\/h2>\n

J Herbin 1798 Kyanite du N\u00e9pal ink is a great addition to J. Herbin\u2019s 1798 ink collection. Although the price is on the high side, the presentation, bottle, and color are all fantastic. It has a very reasonable dry time, shades well, and is a nice blue-dark turquoise color. For these reasons, the ink is great for various notes, letters, projects or other writing. As with any shimmering, sheening or high saturation ink, it is recommended that you clean your fountain pen out periodically using a solution such as Pen Chalet\u2019s Fountain Pen Flush<\/a> to maintain a properly functioning writing instrument.
