Robert Oster Velvet Storm Ink is another new ink color recently released by the\u00a0Robert Oster Ink Company<\/a>. Robert Oster has recently released many new colors, each of which are dark colors of Australia such as Smokescreen<\/a>, Thunderstorm<\/a> and now Velvet storm. These colors represent the vast diversity of color that Australia represents.<\/p>\n

Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink is a dark teal color that has more dark green traits rather than blue. One might consider this ink color a teal-black color or even a green-black as it is very dark and shows up dark with very little true teal color in normal writing. The dark teal color comes out in the color swab and water tests during our review.<\/p>\n

Black based colors have been in vogue the last year or so with many ink companies producing an entire black-color based line of inks such as Platinum\u2019s Classic ink<\/a> colors and Monteverde\u2019s \u201cNoir\u201d series of inks. Robert Oster has not gone to these lengths to produce an entire new series of inks, but continues to come up with new interesting colors with black a dominant feature in the color. Robert Oster Velvet Storm Review<\/p><\/div>\n

During our review of Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink we found the following characteristics which you may find helpful, when choosing your next ink purchase:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

We used a French made glass dip pen manufactured by J. Herbin on Rhodia dot pad paper for this review of Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink. The glass dip pen has a tip that is equivalent to a fine fountain pen nib.<\/p>\n

Bottle Size<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster inks come in simple environmentally friendly 50 ml. ink bottles. The bottles are simple yet functional, containing a small label on top of a ribbed lid with a small ink swatch on top.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Signature Inks retail for $17.00 making Robert Oster ink a mid ranged priced ink. This is quite reasonable realizing that each bottle is imported from Australia. Other Robert Oster ink series such as their Ink Art and their Shake \u2018n\u2019 Shimmer inks retail for more.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

During our review of Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink we noticed a reasonable dry time of approximately 6-7 seconds. Not lightning quick but definitely quick enough for everyday use, which is typically anything under 10 seconds.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

We found no bleeding during our review of Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink. Even during the water test and cotton swab test we failed to notice any ink bleeding using Rhodia dot pad paper.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

During normal use we found no ink feathering on Rhodia paper. During our water test, we did notice some slight line distortion and feathering, which is to be expected with non-waterproof ink.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

We conducted a water test where we ran a soaking wet cotton swab over an sample of Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink that has dried for about 3 minutes. The results are typical for non-waterproof ink: significant color smearing and some line distortion and feathering.<\/p>\n

Shading and Sheening<\/h2>\n

Many Robert Oster inks are known for their shading traits. With the right nib and handwriting style, Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink will not disappoint. We found quite a bit of shading potential, with dark almost black colors and a lighter sea green teal color coming through and about everything in between.<\/p>\n

Conclusions about Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Velvet Storm ink is a nice dark everyday color that is possibly unlike many other teal based colors. It has good characteristics, does not bleed on Rhodia paper, dries fairly quickly and is dark enough for everyday use at the home or office. The price is reasonable and like most other Signature Series of Robert Oster inks, has medium saturation, flows well and is easy on your fountain pen. Happy Writing from Australia!<\/p>\n
