J Herbin has recently announced the newest addition to their 1798 fountain pen ink<\/a> line. J Herbin\u00a0Cornaline d’Egypte is a beautiful orange fountain pen ink<\/a> with silver shimmer particles, that derives it’s name from the gemstone\u00a0Carnelian, or Cornaline in French. The\u00a0Carnelian gemstone was used often in Royal Egyptian Jewelry, and also had religious symbolism. There are many references linking the gemstone\u00a0Carnelian to imagery of the Sun and the Eye of Horus. Both of these images are directly linked to Egyptian religious beliefs and practices. J Herbin has captured much of this symbolism and imagery with their Cornaline d’Egypte.<\/p>\n

J Herbin Cornaline d’Egypte Written Review<\/p><\/div>\n

Our review of J Herbin Cornaline d’Egypte ink produced the following traits that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

For our review of J Herbin Cornaline d’Egypte ink we used a J. Herbin glass dip pen with Rhodia dot pad paper. Our glass dip pen\u2019s tip is equivalent to a fine fountain pen nib.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n

Cornaline d’Egypte comes in the same sturdy square bottle as Amethyste de l \u2018Oural, except with matching orange accents. The bottle holds 50ml of ink, which is pretty standard and plenty of ink for most purposes.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

Cornaline d’Egypte will retail for\u00a0$26.00 USD. This pushes it into the higher end of inks, but definitely not the most expensive ink. For the great quality you are getting,\u00a0$26.00 USD really is a great price.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

We discovered a surprisingly slow dry time for Cornaline d’Egypte. It took approximately 13-15 seconds for it to dry thoroughly, which makes this a slow drying ink. We would not recommend this ink as a swift note-taking ink unless you have some blotter paper handy. However, the gorgeous orange color is totally worth the longer dry time.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

We experienced no bleed through at all during this review. At the wettest point of the cotton swab test, there was very minor show-through, but still zero traces of bleed-through. Our review was done on a Rhodia Dot Pad, so other papers may perform differently.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

Cornaline d’Egypte showed no feathering at all in our review. Every line on the page was clean and crisp.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

For our water test, we ran a wet cotton swab over an ink sample that we had let dry for about three minutes. We assumed that we would see some streaking and smearing, and we were correct. As J Herbin Cornaline d’Egypte is a water-based, non-waterproof ink, it does not have the best water resistance. However, it did leave the sample legible which shows that it does have at least some water resistance.<\/p>\n

Shading & Sheening<\/h2>\n

Cornaline d’Egypte is a great shading ink. In normal writing we found it to shade from a vibrant light orange, to a lovely dark orange. We were unable to produce any sheen in our review, but the silver shimmer definitely makes up for that. In normal writing, the silver shimmer adds just the right amount of shine to make your writing pop.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the J Herbin Cornaline d’Egypte Ink<\/h2>\n

We are very excited to have received this sample bottle from J Herbin<\/a> so that we could post this review. J Herbin Cornaline d’Egypte is a great new addition to the 1798 Ink line. It is a vibrant orange with great shading, and stunning silver shimmer. It may have a slower dry time, but the flow and general ink quality is hard to beat. Also, you get a beautiful glass bottle that, once empty, you can use for other inks or just as a beautiful paper weight.
