Organics Studio Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue Ink is the newest ink color from Organics Studio. This new ink is another mega sheening ink and is the “sheen-range” of Nitrogen Blue<\/a>, Walden Pond Blue<\/a> and Twilight Blue<\/a>. Tyler, the creator of these handmade Maryland inks, has mastered the art of massive sheening inks. These inks are very popular and each of the preceding mega sheening inks have sold out extremely quickly whenever they are ink stock, as did our initial shipment Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue.<\/p>\n

Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink is a dark teal blue ink, which we have ventured to call teal-black, due to its very dark application on white paper. The dark red-purple metallic sheen comes out very naturally, even with a dip pen on Rhodia paper, to the point that the ink looks black with the dark teal appearing. Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink is an absolutely beautiful ink that is fun to write and experiment with.<\/p>\n

If you are new to sheening inks please take note that using them requires a little extra frequency and care in cleaning your pen. We would suggest cleaning out your pen when using high saturation sheening ink every 1-2 weeks and soaking your nib, feed and converter in our\u00a0fountain pen flush<\/a> periodically to ensure any build up is removed.<\/p>\n

If you love Walden Pond Blue, Twilight Blue or other sheening inks, Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink will not disappoint and may even surpass them to become your favorite mega sheening ink color.<\/p>\n

We noticed the following traits during our review of Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

We used a French made J. Herbin glass dip pen on Rhodia dot pad paper for our review of Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink. The glass dip pen has a tip that is equivalent to a fine nib.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n

Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink comes in the Organic Studio standard 55 ml. plastic bottle, with a wide plastic ribbed lid. Each bottle is simple and comes in a non-descript cardboard box with a great descriptive label reflecting the series of ink, color, and a few facts about Earnest Hemingway.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink retails for $16.00, but we have it available for $14.00, which makes it a reasonably priced ink, especially for a handcrafted 55 ml. ink bottle.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink is a very saturated ink, thus we played with the ink and the dip pen to make sure that it was not very wet. With a dryer stroke using the dip pen, we experienced a dry time of approximately 5-6 second. If you have a heavy hand or large nib, you will experience a longer dry time, but it will be worth the wait.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

Surprisingly we experienced absolutely zero bleeding during our review of Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink, even with its high saturation characteristics.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

During normal use with Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink we found very slight feathering, which can only be seen under a magnifying glass. The lines visually look clean and crisp. During the water test, the lines continued to hold up very well and did not feather very much, compared to most other non-water proof inks.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink is not waterproof, however it held up quite well under our water test. We did not experience any additional bleeding and not much feathering at all. However one trait is that the teal really came out during the water test as a color smear when we ran a wet cotton swab over an ink sample that had dried for about 3 minutes.<\/p>\n

Shading & Sheening<\/h2>\n

The \u201cshading\u201d you will notice is the combination of the actual color offset by the mega sheening that comes through with Organics Studio Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue Ink. Actual shading with just the teal color will be almost impossible to notice or see. Sheening on the other hand will come through in almost every circumstance with any paper used and any nib size or method of writing. That\u2019s what makes Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue ink a mega sheening ink, the sheen may come through more than the actual color.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the Organics Studio Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue Ink<\/h2>\n

Organics Studio Santiago\u2019s Sea Blue Ink will be another homerun by Tyler at Organics Studio. It is fun to use, and actually has an amazing color, both the dark red sheen and dark teal-black. This ink goes on dark to paper and can be used in any setting. Just play with the nib and application in order to find a dry time that is functional for your particular use. This ink will sell out quickly, so if you see it in stock order it right away!
