Sailor Shikiori Yozakura Ink is one of the 4 new Shikiori inks recently released by Sailor in the United States. The other\u00a0three\u00a0Sailor Shikoiri ink<\/a> colors are Yodaki, Shimoyo and Yonaga. These new Shikori ink colors are part of Sailor\u2019s Four Season line of inks, the majority of which are under the Jentle ink line of Sailor inks. The Shikiori come in different packaging, bottle size\u00a0and price. Rumors have it that Sailor<\/a> may be shifting all of their Four Season ink colors to the new Sailor Shikiori packaging, size and price point. Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink, or evening spring cherry blossom, unlike other Shikiori inks such as Yonaga has lighter saturation.\u00a0Yozakura is a water-based dye ink and has been well regarded and popular. Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink is a light, soft muted shade of purple that is pleasing to write with and is fantastic for letters, journals, notes and cards.<\/p>\n

During our review of Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink we found the following traits that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

For our review of Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink we used a J. Herbin glass dip pen with French made Rhodia dot pad paper. The dip pen has a tip that is similar to a fine fountain pen nib.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n

Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink comes in a new 20 ml Sailor glass bottle size designed with a heavy weighted bottom. The bottle is simple yet elegant, revealing the ink color through the clear glass. As Sailor may be shifting all of their Four Season ink colors from the current 50 ml Jentle ink glass bottle to these smaller Shikiori 20 ml. glass bottles, this style and packaging may become the norm for many of Sailor\u2019s current ink colors. The small glass bottle still has a nice, large 10-sided lid, which makes for easy opening and use.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink\u00a0is a bit more expensive with a retail price of $15.00 per bottle. Although all of the new Sailor Shikiori ink colors are only available in the new 20 ml. bottle size, the other 16\u00a0Four Season ink colors currently available\u00a0still come in the larger 50 ml. glass bottle at a lower price per milliliter.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

Sailor inks in general perform very well and are highly regarded. During our review we found that Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink to be no exception. The dry time we experienced while testing the Yozakura ink was about 5-6 seconds, using the J. Herbin dip pen on Rhodia paper.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

We found absolutely no bleeding while testing Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink. It has low saturation and even during the soaking wet cotton swab test there was no evidence of bleeding through the Rhodia paper we used.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

During our review of Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink we experienced clean, crisp lines without any feathering during normal use on Rhodia dot pad paper. Even during the water test, feathering was almost non-existent.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink is a water-based dye ink that is labeled as non-waterproof, however, it held up very well under our water test. We ran a wet cotton swab over an the dried ink sample and had\u00a0very little color smearing, no bleeding and no feathering. This is unusual for a non-waterproof ink where we typically get some smearing of the color.<\/p>\n

Shading<\/h2>\n

Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink produces nice shading with a muted light purple and a pink hue to the wetter areas that had a muted dark purple color.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the\u00a0Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink<\/h2>\n

Sailor Shikiori Yozakura ink is a nice new Sailor Four Seasons ink color. The new Shikiori packaging, bottle, size and price may take some time getting accustomed as compared to the normal Sailor Jentle ink<\/a> bottle. Although smaller, the bottle is well designed and like the other Sailor inks, it has wonderful characteristics. The color is a nice muted purple shade and the ink flows well and writes smoothly. We are excited to carry all 4 of the new Sailor Shikiori ink colors. As more information about the future of the other 16 Sailor Four Season inks comes out we will be sure to let you know.<\/p>\n
