Testing Factors<\/h2>\n
For this review we used French made Rhodia dot pad paper with a J. Herbin glass spiral dip pen. The dip pen has a tip that is similar to a fine fountain pen nib.<\/p>\n
Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n
Rohrer & Klingner fountain pen inks<\/a> come in a mid-sized, 50 ml. round glass bottle. The bottle is not unique or distinguishable but is functional and has a large wide lid making it easy to access the ink.\u00a0Also available for use with the bottle is the Rohrer & Klingner Erka Rapid Reservoir<\/a>, an internal inkwell for easy filling of your fountain pen. This inkwell\u00a0is re-usable and can be moved from one bottle to the next.<\/p>\n Rohrer & Klingner Alt inks cost a reasonable $11.95 for the 50 ml. glass bottle, which is quite good due the fact they are imported from Germany.<\/p>\n We found a mid ranged dry time of 8-10 seconds while testing the Alt Goldgrun ink. This dry time was experienced with the glass dip pen on Rhodia paper. Other papers and nib sizes may produce different results.<\/p>\n Using Rhodia dot paper, we did not experience any bleeding with\u00a0the\u00a0Alt Goldgrun ink, even during the cotton swab test. Cheaper paper that soaks up the ink more you may experience some additional bleeding, which is to be expected.<\/p>\n Again, using Rhodia dot paper, we did not experience any feathering during normal use while testing the Alt Goldgrun ink. However, during the water test, we did notice some feathering, but only at the very wettest part of the test.<\/p>\n Rohrer & Klingner Alt Goldgrun ink is not waterproof. During the water test, where we run a cotton swab soaked in water over a dried ink sample, we did not notice a lot of color smearing and only slight feathering at the wettest points.<\/p>\n Rohrer & Klingner Alt Goldgrun ink has wonderful shading potential with the right nib and handwriting style. It will produce darker olive green to light yellow-gold colors. This shading is one reason for its popularity, making it one of the most unique inks on the market today.<\/p>\n Rohrer & Klingner Alt Goldgrun ink should be placed on your \u201cto buy\u201d ink color list. Alt Goldgrun ink is a non-traditional color that fountain pen lovers have in their collection due to its wonderful shading characteristics and unique color. It\u2019s that perfect ink color for journal writing, notes, letters and other non-business writing.
