The Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen is available in four great colors. The Amber Monza is a pleasantly warm brown. Also, the barrel and the cap are both translucent to allow easy viewing of your ink levels, which is a definite perk. The clip and trim are both silver, which accents the Amber color quite nicely. Another benefit, is the clear feed that creates a magical effect of color that stretches up through the section and the feed.<\/p>\n

Qualities<\/h2>\n

There are a few details that make the Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen more than your average $20 pen. First and foremost, is the fact that the Monteverde Monza comes with two O-rings. One in the nib and feed section, and the other just below the threads. It seems to be designed to enable a conversion to an eyedropper system. Although, the use of some silicone grease<\/a> would likely ease this conversion. Another great quality, is the box that it comes in. There are people who throw away the packaging and only care about the pen. However, this pen comes in such a versatile box, that we would suggest any buyer to save it and reuse it. The box comes with foam inside slotted for the pen, two cartridges, and a converter. As it is made for an average sized pen, you could easily re-purpose this box for many of your personal favorites.<\/p>\n

Performance<\/h2>\n

The big question, of course, is “How does it write?” Well, we opened one up and dipped it to find out. For this review we used Robert Oster Signature Blue Water Ice Ink<\/a>. We have found Robert Oster Signature Inks<\/a> to flow well, and behave nicely in most pens. Also, we used a Rhodia Dot Notepad, because they are known to perform well and produce smooth writing. The Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen fits nicely in the hand. It posts to a nice length, and is very lightweight. Anybody who prefers a light pen would love the feel of this pen. Upon first setting the nib to the paper, we experienced some slight scratchiness, but this was soon remedied by a slight tine realignment. Afterwards, the pen was gliding across the page and performed excellently.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/h2>\n

With the high quality and low price tag, the Monteverde Monza Fountain Pen is quickly edging its way to the top as one of our favorite starter pens. Buy one now, and maybe another as a gift. You never know how much you need a fountain pen, until you have your first.<\/p>\n
