This new purple based color, Black Violet ink is anything but a basic purple color. Robert Oster Black Violet ink is a deep, dark color bordering on black. It has a dark purple hue in the color, thus the name. The combination of black and dark purple is fantastic.\u00a0This color can be used as a unique everyday home or office color due to its dark nature and nice characteristics. <\/p>\n

Robert Oster inks<\/a>, although only carried by a handful of US retailers, continue to explode in popularity. This demand is due to the fantastic colors available and the inks characteristics such as sheening qualities, well behaving, etc.<\/p>\n

During our review of Robert Oster Black Violet ink we found the following traits, which you may find useful:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

For this review we used a French made J. Herbin glass spiral dip pen on Rhodia dot pad paper. The dip pen has a tip that is equivalent to a fine fountain pen nib.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Black Violet ink comes in one size, a 50 ml. plastic bottle. Each bottle comes with a ribbed black cap that we have yet to see a leak. Atop the cap is a white sticker indicating what color of ink is contained within the bottle as well as an actual ink sample.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Black Violet ink retails for $17.00 for the 50 ml. bottle. At this price point, it makes Robert Oster Black Violet ink a mid-ranged priced ink, which is not bad considering each bottle is hand crafted in Australia.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

We experienced a 8-10 second dry time using Robert Oster Black Violet ink on Rhodia dot pad paper with a dip pen. This is not bad considering it contained high saturation qualities.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

During normal use, we experienced no bleeding while using Robert Oster Black Violet ink. However, during the cotton swab test, we noticed a very slight amount of bleeding at the most saturated point.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

We experienced no feathering using Rhodia dot pad paper during normal use. During the water test, there was some feathering especially at the wettest points.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Black Violet ink did not hold up really well during the wettest points of the water test, where we ran a wet cotton swab over a dried ink sample. However, after the swab became only damp, it held up reasonably well without a lot of line distortion or color smearing, etc.<\/p>\n

Shading<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster inks in general usually have some very nice shading characteristics. Robert Oster Black Violet ink is no different, but may not have as much shading as some other ink colors. The dark black\/purple predominately shows up, but with a lighter, dryer stroke, a beautiful purple will come out. This makes the shading, if you can achieve it, actually quite beautiful.<\/p>\n

Saturation Test<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Black Violet ink has medium to high saturation. During our saturation test, one dip of ink would produce an entire line across the paper without any loss of color or drying out.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the\u00a0Robert Oster Black Violet Ink<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Black Violet ink is a nice dark black purple ink<\/a>, which dries reasonably well for being a medium to high saturated ink. The color is beautiful and the price reasonable. Since Robert Oster has so many colors to choose from, put Robert Oster Black Violet ink on your purple list to try when a true vibrant purple color is not in your mood.
