Robert Oster continues to add inks to their Australian palette of colors. With the release of several new colors this spring including Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink, they have more than\u00a070 colors available. As you can imagine with 70+ colors of inks, Golden Brown is a variation of a typical brown color ink<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink Bottle<\/p><\/div>\n

Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink is a dark brown color with light reddish brown highlights. This is a very nice brown color ink. Not too much red such as in the J. Herbin Terre De Feu Ink or even Waterman Absolute Brown ink. The Golden Brown ink also achieves some sheen when it pools and dries. \u00a0If you are looking for a brown ink with a slight golden hue this may not be the ink for you. It is a very nice deep dark color with less red than most brown inks.<\/p>\n

We found the following characteristics while testing Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

We used Rhodia Bloc N. 18 paper with a J. Herbin glass spiral dip pen for this ink review. The J. Herbin glass dip pen has a tip comparable to a fine nib.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n

All Robert Oster inks<\/a> come in a standard clear plastic non-descript 50 ml. bottle. You are not going to pay extra for a bottle. With no frills, it is functional and does the job. There is also just one size available on the market when purchasing Robert Oster inks.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

The retail price for Robert Oster inks is $16.00 US dollars. Although this price is slated to increase to $17.00 any time. This makes Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink a mid-ranged priced fountain pen ink. Not bad for a handcrafted and imported Australian ink.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink has a good amount of saturation. It does have a longer dry time than some of the other Robert Oster inks we have reviewed. During our testing of Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink we experienced a 7-8 second dry time when using the glass dip pen on Rhodia paper.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

No ink\u00a0bleeding was experienced using Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink during our review. This is a common characteristic with Robert Oster inks, at least with higher quality paper such as French made Rhodia paper.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

The Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink experienced no feathering during normal use. However, during the water test, there was significant feathering at the wettest points.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

Running a wet cotton swab over the dried\u00a0Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink sample, we produced a significant amount of color smearing, line distortion and feathering. This is not a water proof ink, or even water resistant.<\/p>\n

Shading<\/h2>\n

The Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink created\u00a0some\u00a0nice shading using, especially with a thicker nib pen and the cotton swab. As with most inks, the finer the tip, the less shading you will experience. Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink has some nice shading potential.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink<\/h2>\n

Overall, Robert Oster Golden Brown Ink is a nice dark brown color ink, with less red than most brown colors. We would probably classify it as a true \u201cGolden Brown\u201d color. The dry time is longer than other Robert Oster inks, but the saturation is nice and the color shows up really well on paper. This ink can be used in all settings including the office due to its deep rich color and reasonable dry time. The price is reasonable for a mid-range imported ink from way down under.<\/p>\n
