Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve Ink: Robert Oster, the Australian ink company with 68 ink colors, and continuing to expand, has created a unique purple ink<\/a> color in its Australian Opal Mauve. Robert Oster\u2019s Australian Opal Mauve<\/a>, which is actually a reference to Australia\u2019s opal gem, which are beautiful in and of themselves, is a nice colored ink. Australia Opan Mauve is a dusty muted light purple color with a tinge of pink in a greyish hue. This soft purple\/mauve color would be wonderful in letter and journal writing. Although there have been some reports of the ink being on the dryer side and less saturating than some other Robert Oster<\/a> inks, we found it to be dark and legible, even using a fine tipped glass dip pen.<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

We used Rhodia Bloc N. 18 paper with a J. Herbin Glass Spiral Dip pen for this review. The dip pen has a fine tip.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n

All 68 Robert Oster ink bottles have the same, a non-descript 50 ml. dark plastic ink bottle with a distinctive gold Robert Oster Signature ink seal. The best part of the bottle is the white label on top of the lid with the ink color and a small ink swatch reflective of the ink color inside each bottle.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink currently retails for $16.00 in the USA. This is a mid range price, not as cheap as some inks, but substantially less than the high end luxury inks on the market today. The 50 ml. bottle is a good sized bottle with the right price making picking up multiple bottles of Robert Oster ink quite easy.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink, being a dryer ink with less saturation produces very quick dry time. During our review, with Rhodia paper and the glass dip pen we experienced around a 3 to 5 second dry time.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

Absolutely no bleeding was evidence using Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink. Even during the cotton swab test, we didn\u2019t experience any bleeding with this ink.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

During normal use we did not notice any feathering with Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink. However, during the water test, the wettest part distorted the ink lines and feathering was apparent.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink is not waterproof. During the water test we ran on the ink there was significant feathering and some color distortion. Due to the light color of the ink the distortion was not tremendous and thus the lines were still clearly legible.<\/p>\n

Shading<\/h2>\n

Shading is a loved feature with most Robert Oster inks. Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink produces some shading with different tinges of colors depending on the saturation and nib used. Dark purple, to light grey purple with pink mauve tones interlaced within.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink<\/h2>\n

Overall, Robert Oster Australian Opal Mauve ink is a nice muted purple ink that is sure to please. It has a great dry time, no too bad under water as far as color distortion, is reasonably priced and has some beautiful distinctive colors and tones. This Australian ink is just one of many wonderful and unique colors produced by Robert Oster.<\/p>\n
