Monteverde Burgundy Ink is one of the new Monteverde World of Ink colors recently released. Monteverde ink which contains their trademarked ITF technology or \u201cInk Treatment Formula\u201d, continues to impress with a wide variety of colors and wonderful ink characteristics. The Monteverde ITF formula allows for additional lubrication while using the\u00a0ink and allows for extended cap off allowance without drying your pen\u00a0as well as improved ink dry time and flow. Monteverde has recently extended their ink line to 23 wonderful colors. Monteverde Napa Burgundy<\/a> is one of these new colors and is a nice dark red burgundy color, similar to Sailor Jentle Oku-Yama<\/a> and other burgundy colored inks<\/a>. The color comes off nice and dark especially with a wider nib fountain pen.<\/p>\n

Please note the following traits we noticed when reviewing Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h2>\n

For this review we used Rhodia Bloc paper with a glass dip pen made by J. Herbin, which has a fine tip.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h2>\n

Monteverde<\/a> has released a new smaller 30 ml. glass bottle to go with its normal 90 ml. glass bottle, thus giving Pen Chalet customers another cheaper option for\u00a0Monteverde’s fountain pen ink. We love the smaller ink option, especially when ink companies produce a wide range of colors. The smaller bottle allows customers to pick up multiple colors to test without breaking the bank.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h2>\n

The cost of a bottle of Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink is very reasonably price and is at the mid to low end of the ink spectrum. The smaller 30 ml. glass bottles retail for $8.00 while the larger standard 90 ml. glass bottles retail for $15.00.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h2>\n

With Rhodia paper and a glass dip pen, by J. Herbin, we experienced a reasonably quick dry time of between 5-6 seconds. The glass dip pen has a fine tip, so you could expect a longer dry time depending on the nib size you are using.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h2>\n

We did not observe any bleeding at all during our review, including when we ran a ink soaked cotton swab over the paper. Most inks we have reviewed show some bleeding with this test but not the Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h2>\n

We did not see any feathering using Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink during normal use on Rhodia paper with the dip pen. During the water test, some feathering was noticed when the ink was soaked with water.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h2>\n

Our water test is where we run a water soaked cotton swab over a dried ink sample of Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink after letting it sit for about 3 minutes. This test resulted in significant color smearing, some slight feathering, but no bleeding. Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink is not waterproof, but maintained clear lines and held up admirably.<\/p>\n

Shading<\/h2>\n

Using Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink produced some shading, with the deep dark lines with at a nibs wettest point to a lighter red with almost a dark pink shade at its driest points.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the\u00a0Monteverde Napa Burgundy Ink<\/h2>\n

Overall, Monteverde Napa Burgundy ink is a nice shade of burgundy, has a reasonably quick dry time, contains Monteverde\u2019s ITF formula and is reasonably priced. The smaller bottle options means that you do not have to break the bank to try numerous new ink colors in Monteverde\u2019s World of Ink options. Enjoy!<\/p>\n
