Platinum Pigmented Blue Ink is one of Platinum’s three pigmented ink colors along with Platinum Pigmented Rose Red ink and Platinum Pigmented Sepia ink. This standard blue fountain pen ink<\/a> might have a touch of grey in it, but the blue stands out well on white paper. Platinum Pigmented Blue ink is archival quality ink, being a pigmented ink instead of a water based ink and is also light and heat resistant.<\/p>\n

Platinum Pigmented Blue Ink<\/p><\/div>\n

We found that the Platinum Pigmented Blue ink has the following characteristics, which we hope you find useful.<\/p>\n

Testing Factors<\/h3>\n

Using a glass dip pen by Rohrer & Klingner<\/a>, which has a broad type nip, using Rhodia Bloc N. 18 paper.<\/p>\n

Bottle Sizes<\/h3>\n

Platinum Pigmented Blue ink comes in a large 60 ml glass bottle with curved sides. The bottle has a\u00a0good-sized lid, which allows for all pen types to easily access the fountain pen ink inside. Like Sailor<\/a> inks, the Platinum brand<\/a> inks come with an internal reservoir, which allows the user to turn the bottle upside down, capturing a small amount of ink needed to fill your pen. This enables capturing the last few drops of ink from a bottle.<\/p>\n

Cost<\/h3>\n

Platinum Pigmented Blue ink retails for a reasonable $20.00, for the large 60 ml bottle. Similar bottles of pigmented ink from other brands retail for more than the Platinum brand. Additionally, Platinum has produced a nice Rose Red pigmented ink and a Sepia Pigmented ink\u00a0as well as\u00a0a\u00a0Black Carbon ink, which is similar to the pigmented inks.<\/p>\n

Dry Time<\/h3>\n

Using the large nib Rohrer & Klingner dip pen, which allows large amounts of pigmented ink to cling to the glass, producing very dark wet lines which take a long time to dry. Our test indicated when using this pen, dry time will take at least 20 seconds. A finer\u00a0nib will not take as much time, but the pigmented ink may be harder to clean out of your fine or extra fine nib.<\/p>\n

Bleed Through<\/h3>\n

We experienced absolutely no bleeding with Platinum Pigmented Blue ink using the Rhodia Bloc N. 18 paper.<\/p>\n

Feathering<\/h3>\n

Platinum Pigmented Blue ink produced nice distinct lines with no perceptible feathering at all.<\/p>\n

Water Test<\/h3>\n

Platinum Pigmented Blue ink is clearly a waterproof ink, thus great for archival documents. We used a completely wet cotton swab and ran it over sample ink lines after a 3 minute dry time, which produced no color residue, feathering or ink smearing.<\/p>\n

Shading<\/h3>\n

Nice shading was experienced depending on the quantity of ink used, which changed the blue hues from the regular blue to a lighter blue with more grey to a darker blue.<\/p>\n

Conclusion about the Platinum Pigmented Blue Ink<\/h3>\n

The blue\u00a0Platinum Pigmented ink<\/a>\u00a0has a nice color, very reasonably priced, large bottle.
