The shells are ground with a hard stone into thin sheets to be used in the process. They are then cut and fixed on the pen with lacquer and then coated and polished for a stunning end result.<\/p>\n<p>Originally reserved for Japanese royalty, the maki-e technique represents wealth and power. Each hand crafted pen is then signed and numbered by the artist making the\u00a0Pelikan M1000 Raden Sunrise Red fountain pen truly a fine crafted masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Pelikan M1000 Raden Sunrise Red fountain pen is then fitted with an 18k gold two tone medium nib.
