Monteverde California Teal Ink is a newer ink from Monteverde’s World of Colors introduced last year. The new World of Ink collection includes 21 regular ink colors, 2 Permanent Documental ink colors in blue and black, and 10 Gemstone ink colors for a total of 33 colors in all. This amazing new collection includes California Teal, a green-blue color unlike most blue-green ink. This darker green color is a nice shade of medium to dark green with a very slight hint of blue.
Monteverde California Teal ink contains Monteverde’s ITF (ink treatment formula) technology. This allows for improved ink flow, quicker dry time and protects against clogging. The ink is a high saturation ink that shows up dark on paper. The ink is manufactured in Europe and is a great value.

Please note the following characteristics while reviewing Monteverde California Teal ink that you may find useful:
Testing Factors
For this review we used Rhodia Bloc paper with a J. Herbin glass dip spiral pen. The dip pen has a tip that is equivalent to a fine fountain pen nib.
Bottle Sizes
Part of the reinvention of Monteverde World of Colors ink collection is releasing a new smaller ink bottle option. Monteverde California Teal ink is currently available in Monteverde’s orginal large 90 ml. glass bottle and also a new smaller square 30 ml. glass bottle. These different bottle sizes allow you to test Monteverde’s new colors at a lower price.
Cost
Monteverde California Teal ink is an economical ink option with the new smaller 30 ml. ink bottle retailing for very reasonable $8.00 and the very large 90 ml. bottle for $15.00, which is the price for most imported 30 ml. bottles of ink.
Dry Time
We found a very reasonable 6-7 second dry time while testing Monteverde California Teal ink. Although not the fastest ink we have found on the market, it has a very respectable dry time making it practical for everyday office or home use.
Bleed Through
We found absolutely zero bleeding using Monteverde California Teal ink. Even during the cotton swab test at the wettest, there was no bleeding using Rhodia paper.
Feathering
During normal use, we did not experience any feathering using Rhodia paper. However, during the water test there was substantial feathering noticed which is not uncommon for a non-waterproof ink.
Water Test
We let a Monteverde California Teal ink sample dry for approximately 3 minutes and after the ink has dreid we run a wet cotton swab over the sample. This test produced significant color smearing, line distortion and feathering. Monteverde California Teal ink is not a waterproof or water resistant ink.
Shading
Monteverde California Teal ink will produce some nice shading. The wet lines will produce a dark green line. Lighter green areas with a slight hint of a blue tinge appeared where there was less ink applied. With the right hand, this ink can produce some nice shading.
Conclusion about the Monteverde California Teal ink
Monteverde California Teal ink is a great ink option. It is a very reasonably priced, good value and size. The ink has a reasonably quick dry time and a nice green color. Monteverde inks are well regarded in general with their ITF formula and characteristics. Monteverde California Teal ink is a nice new addition to Monteverde’s World of Color Ink Collection.

i haven’t had one yet, but would like to try
That’s a beautiful blue/green color. Thanks for a chance to win!
I love the Monteverde inks. Beautiful!
A good teal, perhaps like Robert Oster River of Fire.
Since I don’t own any Monteverde ink, I will answer the other part of the question: which is my favorite ink. The answer is, without a doubt, one that is no longer being produced – Sheaffer Kings Gold.
Teal is my favorite color!
I’ve actually never tried a Monteverde ink before since I’m fairly new to the hobby. My favourite ink though is probably R&K Alt-Goldgrun.
I love how wet these Monteverde inks are, and I LOVE this color!
This is a beautiful ink! I’ve tried it and love it – it’s a gorgeous dark, greeny Teal, and shows a nice red sheen, even in ny fine-nib pens. I would LOVE to win a bottle!
I tried a ink sample of Monteverde Mandarin Orange and like it the best of their inks i’ve tried.
I use italic nibs, so any ink that has a sheen and/or fun color surprises is right up my alley!
I have just received my first Monteverde pen and love it. I will have to try the inks next!
I have been looking for more teal inks lately, after deciding that while I might love Lamy Petrol, I wasn’t going to buy a LE ink… I’d find something close. I’m loving the Teal.
This is a beautiful ink! I’m a sucker for teals and blue-greens, though, so it’s no surprise that I like this one…
I have never tried Monteverde Inks, but I would always start with a blue or green. So this giveaway for the California Teal is perfect for me to try it out! Thanks for the chance.
I haven’t tried any Monteverde inks, but I really love the look of this ink. Thanks for the chance to win!
One of my favorite colors. I’d love it.
I had only tried an Emerald Green ink sample, but loved it. Well behaved and nice color. Turquoise, aquas. and teals are my very favorite ink colors and would love to win this–absolutely count me in! 🙂
I have a couple monteverde inks – two from their gemstone line and a package of cartridges of their old Burgundy color. No matter which pen I use, they always run quite wet.
I got my bottle of California Teal last week, and I’m so excited! I have to say, I really enjoy this ink. It’s a nice rich, dark teal, but when writing with a wet pen, it shows up mostly as a very dark green with just a hint of blue. It’s nice and wet, which I love, and when using quality paper, there’s a wonderful red sheen. (I’m a sucker for sheen!) I highly recommend this ink if you like those dark greens/teals. Don’t expect any water resistance, but it’s a great color, and nice and wet. Thank you so… Read more »
