I purchased two colors from Pen Chalet, Kin Moukusi and Chu Shu, and absolutely love them.

Kin Moukusi shades even in fine nibs. It's an unabashedly orange orange. There really isn't any other way to describe it-- it's just very orange. it's my new favorite Ink.

Chu Shu was a smidgen of a let down. In pictures it comes across as a dusty purple. My bottle is a dupe for diamine Earl Grey. Sure, it's a great grey-- maybe my favorite kind of grey-- but I thought I was buying a dusty purple.

Pen Chalet's service was great. My bottles arrived in perfect condition.

This was my first Pen Chalet order and I would absolutely order from them again.

The Sailor Jentle Yama-Dori ink is slow-drying, but worth it. It is a genuine teal with beautiful shading, pretty enough for joy and still dark enough for the office. I've read it gets a reddish sheen under the right conditions, but I haven't seen that yet.

Ahh, the Sailor Jentle, well- what can I say other than I'm very impressed with this ink. I have had some experience with Sailor inks in the past but on someone else's dime so I never got to really appreciating this stationary accompaniment. I felt this ink would be something special: gently shaking the bottle and inverting the ink into the built in ink well revealed a viscosity and sheen that demanded something less of recycled notepad scraps and heavier parchment with a writing tool to match. I grabbed my "Mark Twain" with a Medium nib, filled its reservoir with three meaty pumps and got to scribbling my John Hankcock as fast and as large as I could.

Sailor Jentle, I selected 'Shigure' (dark violet) is nothing but a sinister delight. Ink is right on the nib and with very little pressure, you wouldn't need much on medium nib, it flows right off the contact and dries heartedly. Right out, the ink settles dark but dries into a very vivid dark violet; my eyes played tricks on me when I first saw it drying: giving a dark brown look from afar but up close the violet really stealing the show.

The Sailor Jentle, however, is weakest on paper that's recycled or has thick fibers. I noticed that the ink was "fuzzy" on those types of paper due to the ink over-saturating and through capillary action during the drying time causes the ink to stain the fibers outside of the contact point. From afar you get "fuzzy/ hairy" ink but on closer inspection you see that it is as I described. I suspect it to be more so the time it takes to dry but the ink is nonetheless still spectacular to use and I believe it to be one of the more expressive inks I've gotten to use, recently.

Jentle is still a premium ink and at $16.00 for 50mL it's not the cheapest ink of the bunch (you can read my review of the 90mL [opposed to 50mL] Monteverde 'Blue-Black' for cheaper than and more of). While I am (definitely) a fan of this ink I suspect it may be the ink that I would use as a standard for being cost-prohibitive. I think it would be excellent for everyday writing but it's not so friendly on the wallet; for the price of Sailor Jentle it is for a full tank of fuel on my motorcycle (and that get's me to work). I would probably recommend this ink if you're really going for something premium and have the appropriate weight of parchment to write on; it deserves no less at the price you're paying for.

Really like this one. Color has been described as wet tea leaves. Close...and surprisingly lovely. Great flow, mwetness, etc. Not cheap but worthwhile.

Sailor Yama Dori is one of the best shading inks. Its mix of Blue + Black + Green.
Thanks Penchalet for making it still available in 50 ml bottles.

I love this ink (so much so that this is my "spare" bottle for when the previous runs out). The color lays down like a sunset. Nice shading from apricot to a darker orange. The ink itself is on the dry side. Doesn't play well with dry pens. However for pens that flow well, it's perfect. Really shines in stubs or flex nibs. While it is depressing that this ink has increased so much in $, I'm glad that Sailor brought it back. I'm also thankful that Pen Chalet tries to keep it in stock. This is my "go-to" place for ink.

This ink is lovely color. I am using it in a marbleized orange pen and like the combo. The only downside is that it is expensive.

This line of ink is the best, bar none. Never had a flow issue in any of my pens, and even performs well (and safely) in my vintage Esterbrooks. The range of colors are phenominal (I have 11 different colors), and my absolute favorite is Yama-dori. Many sheen and shade well, but the properties do vary a little from ink to ink. To bad about the just announced new bottles and price increase. I'm stocking up now!!!
