About the Lamy Studio

The Lamy Studio fountain pen integrates art into design. The innovative propeller shaped clip creates a unique pen. Designed by Hannes Wettstein, this popular pen uses a cartridge filling system and accepts the Lamy T 10 ink cartridge or can be modified with a Lamy LZ27 converter that is included. Each Lamy Studio fountain pen comes with either a stainless steel nib or a 14k bi-color gold nib.

Lamy Studio Video Script

This is the Lamy Studio Fountain pen. It comes in a black cardboard box that has the Lamy logo here on the top. The top of the box has this little compression fit around that logo, then the box unfolds. Included with the pen is informational instructions about Lamy, as well as the Lamy Studio Fountain pen.

This is the black version of the pen. It comes with chrome accents. At the top of the cap we have just a chrome tip with a chrome clip on the pen, which transitions nicely. It's designed to look like a propeller, so it's a little different look, a unique look to the Lamy Studio. And then at the top of the cap we have the Lamy logo printed on the pen. Between the cap and the barrel it's a nice, tight seam. Then at the bottom of the barrel, we have just a chrome cap or end to the pen.

This is a compression fit cap, it simply snaps off. We have a chrome colored grip section and Lamy logo; it has a Lamy printed on there. This is a cartridge converter style pen, so included with the pen we have an ink cartridge, as well an ink converter, so you can use bottled inks or cartridge inks, whichever you would prefer with this pen.

Now the cap on the pen can be posted. It is a compression fit back onto the top to keep the cap securely in place once you close the pen. To replace the ink on the pen, you simply unscrew that grip section from the barrel, and you can insert your ink cartridge or a converter into this portion of the pen, and screw that pen back together.

This is a sharp looking pen. Lamy is a German company makes some fantastic writing instruments. Get your Lamy Studio Fountain pen at PenChalet.com

The Lamy Studio is just a beautiful pen. The seamless design, the shape, the clip, everything. EXCEPT... the metal grip and the nib. At this price, you start getting into better nibs with other pens, and Lamy's Z50 nibs are just subpar once you go past the $50 pen mark. They tend to be inconsistent, I find them to be dry and you never know what to expect from a Lamy nib.
Regarding the section, it is slippery. No way around it. This pen would benefit so much from a matte finish on the section. There are some versions that come with a rubberized grip, and I know there are places you can get the rubberized grip by itself or lightly sand the section, but you shouldn't need to do this for a pen you are paying $79. It's not outrageous in price, but at this price point there are good options that don't need tinkering for basic functionality.

Overall, I like this pen and I recommend it, just be aware you are paying for the design and looks, more than the functionality of the pen.

The Lamy Studio stainless steel finish allows use of the very good Z50 nib with a good round rubber covered grip. The medium nib is smooth and wet making the pen very pleasant to write with . I enjoy the pen very much.

This is a lovely, lovely pen. Sometimes, with heavier pens like this, the balance and feel will be enough to keep the extra weight from bothering me. That's not quite the case with this pen (i.e., it FEELS heavy to ME), but it's not too bad.

The Studio is tied with my favorite Lamy pen, the 2000. Nibs are super easy to swap and they have a decent variety of nib sizes, it handles all ink brands that I've used like a champ, and the fit & finish on the Studio.....WOW. The tolerances are tight and solid and smooth. Just a pleasure all around!

I bought the stainless steel version. Others have commented that the pens are heavy, but I don't find it to be so. It seems to be just the right weight. The cap posts securely. I bought the 14K replacement nib, and changed the steel nib out for the 14K nib. I've found that Lamy steel EF nibs are scratchy, but the 14K EF nib is very smooth. It is also slightly wider than the steel EF nib.

The only flaw is that the converter tends to let ink hold up in the back end, as you store the pen with the nib up in your pocket. When you put the nib down, the ink won't always flow to the bottom of the converter. I am going to flush the converter several times with ammonia to try to clean out any oil residue.
